"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold"

Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!

Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.

  • It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)

  • It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).

  • It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

SMALL SLIP-UP "COSTS" IN SENIOR TOUR MAJOR

Spring Lake, NC

August 23, 2012

Pinehurst's Rick Luzar is no stranger to the winner's circle on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour, having taken first place laurels on numerous occasions over the past few years.

But even a guy who is always a factor in Championship Flight play isn't immune to a common mistake that afflicts every golfer from time to time - the dreaded 3-putt. Also the timing of it made it extra painful.

Playing his 17th hole on the beautiful Anderson Creek Golf Club layout, Luzar missed what amounted to a tap-in to three putt that green and cost him a tie for first place at the end of the event with Summerfield's Steve Lambert. Lambert turned in a 1-under 71 and edged Luzar by a single stroke.

Lambert's win, as was the case with all other flight winners in this Major Championship, assures him of an invitation to the year ending National Tour Championship Tournament that is held in Pinehurst in November. "Both Lambert and Luzar have been major factors in past year-ending events, and I expect this year to be no different", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.

In A Flight action, Zebulon's Dale Casey got past Pinehurst's Gary Doern, also by a single stroke - 74 to 75. While they played from one tee-box shorter than the Championship boys, these were still very impressive scores. Five players in the flight were within 2 strokes of the lead.

Louis Herndon notched his second win of the season in the B Flight, shooting 80 to edge a trio of golfers by one shot - Raleigh's Doug Shank, Fayetteville's Ray Miranda and Mike Garber of Carthage. Following suit with the other 3 flights, Zebulon's Willie Brady likewise managed a 1 shot win over 2 Raleigh Tour members: John Hall and Benny Miller.

Once again, the biggest winner of the day was The Folds Of Honor Foundation, a charitable organization that provides subsistence and scholarships for the families of US servicemen killed in the line of duty. The Tour is raffling off a signed, matted and framed original photograph of hole #13 at Augusta National Golf Club and donations from last week and this have raised over $900.00. The total will rise this Saturday as donations will be accepted during the Golfweek Amateur Tour event also to be held at Anderson Creek. The original goal of donating $1000.00 should be realized easily.

The Senior Tour will take the next two weeks off and resume play on September 13 at Hyland Golf Club in Southern Pines.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions

ONLY WHEN THE FORM OF PLAY IS A FACTOR WILL IT BE STATED

Question from week #160

Brothers Joey and Johnny Grimm are partners in a foursome stroke play competition. They have decided that Joey will tee off on the odd holes. On the fifth hole, Joey has hit their tee ball into the lateral hazard that runs down the left side of the hole.

The partners correctly determine the spot where their tee ball last crossed the margin of the hazard and decide to drop a ball under R26-1c within two club-lengths of that spot, no closer to the hole. Johnny drops a substituted ball within the prescribed area but it starts rolling down the slope towards the hazard. Joey stops the ball with his foot before it can reach the hazard margin, picks it up and tosses it back to Johnny to re-drop. This time the ball moves only about a foot before it comes to rest. Johnny hits this ball onto the green and Joey made the putt.

What did the brothers score on the 5th hole?

a. They did everything correctly and scored a 4.

b. Joey should not have stopped the dropped ball short of the hazard and as a result they are penalized two strokes instead of one. They made 5.

c. Joey should not have stopped the dropped ball short of the hazard and as a result they get an additional 2-stroke penalty under Rule 1-2. They made 6.

d. The brothers had a total of five penalty strokes and scored an 8 on the hole. They may face a possible DQ.

Answer:

The correct answer is “d”. This indeed is a grim situation.

They hit the ball three times and had five penalty strokes (R26-1, R1-2 and Rule 20-7.

The penalty for R26-1 is obvious because they took relief for a ball in a lateral water hazard.

This is foursomes stroke play where the players alternate shots from tee to hole-out. Since it is Johnny’s turn to play next, he must be the one to drop a ball for taking relief under R26-1 which he did correctly. But his brother must not stop the ball before it comes to rest unless it either has crossed the margin of the hazard or has rolled more than two club-lengths and in either case has no reasonable chance of reversing direction ( see Decision 20-c/4). The penalty for prematurely stopping the ball breaches Rule 1-2; a two stroke penalty. In this case the ball must then be placed and played from where it was stopped by Joey’s foot (see Note 2 below the penalty statement for R1-2).

When they failed to replace the ball where it had been stopped by Joey’s foot and instead played their next stroke from a position a few feet away, they breached Rule 20-7, Wrong Place, a second 2-stroke penalty.

Depending on the exact circumstances, the Committee could rule this a serious breach and DQ the brothers Grimm.

TTour Weather Guidelines

Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.

The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).

In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.

Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.

If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
