SENIOR AMATEUR TOUR PLAYERS GO LOW AT CHAPEL RIDGE

Pittsboro, NC - (April 15, 2010) After a cold, snowy winter that didn't allow much opportunity for practicing a golf game, results on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour reflected that fact earlier in the season. Scores on average were higher than expected while some of the Flight leaders from past seasons had trouble posting what for them were even respectable scores when the season started.
If today's scores at The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge are any indication, that trend may very well be reversed in future events as a number of Tour members posted the lowest scores they've recorded "on-Tour" in a number of years.
Chuck Latham of Vass shot a 1-under 71 to win the A Flight competition, 3 strokes better than Raleigh's Bob Rudolph. Tom Handy of Fuquay-Varina took top honors in the B Flight over John Ashby of Galax. Both shot 75s, but Ashby conceded 1st place to Handy by declining to go back out for a sudden-death playoff. Raleigh's Benny Miller turned in his lowest Tour score in memory with an 81 that was 2 shots clear of Cary's Wayne Jones.
Rick Luzar was the Championship Flight winner with an even par round of 72, edging fellow Pinehurst resident Chuck Taubersmith by one. Both players have enjoyed Tour success in the past, and these were their best efforts of the 2010 campaign. "That's the type of scoring I expect from our Championship Flight guys. They just had to knock off some "ring-rust", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "I think we can look forward to some more serious scoring in the next few events".
