LOW SCORES DOMINATE SENIOR TOUR EVENT

Mebane, NC (June 23, 2011) - Some of the lowest scores recorded this season on The Senior Amateur Golf Tour were turned in by the winners of all four flights today in the season's third Major Championship event held at Mill Creek GC. In addition, a number of personal bests in Tour play were recorded by non-winners as well.
Appropriately, the best result of the day was turned in by Cary's David Williams in the Championship Flight, who registered 7 birdies on his way to a 3 stroke win over both David Coolidge of Greensboro and Pinehurst's Terry Collins. Williams' 69 was 3 shots clear of the runners-up. Winston-Salem's Roger Joyce cruised to a 6-shot victory in A Flight action with a 70. Zebulon's Dale Casey finished 2nd. "Roger played from the same tees as the Championship Flight guys", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck, "which made his feat even more remarkable".
Playing from the shorter White Tees, Gus Alford of Zebulon continued the string of low scoring by posting a 72 in B Flight competition. Pinehurst's Wayne Ricks, a multi-year Tour veteran, was 3 back with a 75, one of his lowest career efforts ever. "Gus'll be playing A Flight in future events", said Hallenbeck. "He's proved he can play with those guys".
Brian Costine of Durham also stands a good chance of receiving a "battlefield promotion" up one flight after his 81 took top honors in the C Flight. He needed every good shot he hit as Pinehurst's Dane McCaffrey was only one back with by far his lowest Tour scoring effort yet.
All four flight winners receive an automatic invitation to the National Tour Finals that will be held in Pinehurst in mid-Novenber. In addition, double points will be awarded to every participant for the year-long Points Standings Competition. The Senior Tour will take next week off for the Fourth of July, but will resume play on July, 7 at Seven Lakes Country Club near West End.
Any amateur golfer over 50 interested in playing in that event can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556.
