SOMETIMES IT AIN'T ONLY ABOUT THE WINNER

On a day when scores were particularly high, Mocksville's Mark Denton went low in the C Flight to once again emerge victorious on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour at Colonial Country Club. His 83 was four strokes clear of 2 Tour members: High Point's Richard Hartley and Greensboro's Barry Whitesell. While Hartley also has had a number of Tour wins, Whitesell managed to take 2nd place in the event in a card playoff matching his best career Tour finish. The 87 he registered was also the lowest score the 21.4 handicapper had ever posted in Tour competition.
"Barry started the year with a 107 score at The Neuse in March, his score last week in the Carolina Trace event was 109", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "It's just great to see a guy come in 2nd in a field of 29 golfers in his flight alone posting his best Tour score ever. Barry has stuck with it and it's nice to see this result come his way".
It also didn't hurt that he was one of only three guys to win a "skin" in the cash skins game.
Bob Kober of Colfax and Joey Moffitt of High Point tied for the top spot in the Championship Flight with 76s. As is the case with all 1st place ties "on-Tour", the combatants went back out on the course to determine a winner in a sudden-death shoot-out. Moffitt emerged the winner, making a clutch 12 foot putt on their second hole.
Ron Brady of McLeansville, who has been dominating the A Flight competition lately, equaled the Championship front-runners with a 76 to grab the A Flight crown. He was 2 shots ahead of Zebulon's Randy Bunn.
Brady has decided to move to the Championship Flight for future outings. "Those (Champ Flight) guys will now have to deal with me", said a confident Brady during the awards presentation.
"That's where Brady needs to be playing" stated Hallenbeck. "I'm sure he's going to do very well against the big boys".
Lewisville's Ron Gburek claimed his first Tour win in this, his rookie campaign. He was the only B Flight player to break 80 with a 79. He was 2 strokes clear of both Advance's Dawson Strider and Huston Shaw of Winston-Salem.
The Seniors next stop is Greensboro Country Club - The Carlson Farms course - next Thursday, August 6 at 9:00 am. There are a few spots still available for that event.

Questions from week #314
Chris’s ball cleared the water hazard fronting the green, hit the grass mound beside the green and deflected left towards a second lateral water hazard. As Chris makes his way to the other side and gets a view of the lateral water hazard, he sees a ball lying about two feet inside the hazard margin, but not in the water. As he approaches this ball he startles several green turtles that were sunning themselves on the bank. In their defensive dash to the safety of the of water, they also end up nudging this ball from the bank and it rolls down into the water. Chris goes to the water’s edge, sees the ball lying in shallow water, retrieves it and it is indeed his ball.
Select all true statements:
A. Chris may choose to play a ball under any option of R26-1.
B. Providing Chris is virtually certain the ball retrieved from the water was the one sitting on the bank, he should replace the ball on the original spot it lay before being moved by the turtles.
C. If Chris elects to play from the original spot on the bank, but is unsure of the precise spot, he should drop a ball on the estimated spot.
D. The turtles are common to water and are not outside agencies. Chris has no choice but to proceed to either play the ball as it lies or seek relief under R26-1.

The ball should be replaced unless the player is proceeding under a Rule that permits otherwise. If the exact spot is known, then Chris would place the ball. If the exact spot is unknown, then Chris should drop the ball at the estimated spot (R20-3). If after placing/dropping, Chris could still choose to proceed under an appropriate option in R26-1. It is critical that Chris is virtually certain the ball found is both his and was the ball moved by the turtles.

=============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
