Darrell Hagwood (C Flight) Mike Smith (A Flight) Craig Sturdivant (Champ Flight)
Holly Springs, NC (August 12, 2010) - Craig Sturdivant of Sanford shot a 68 at Devils Ridge Country Club for a 5-shot margin of victory in the Championship Flight of The Senior Amateur Golf Tour event today. For the second week in a row Sturdivant carded 6 birdies in a Tour event to help propel him to the top spot. He posted a 2-under 34 on both the front and back "nines" over the 6,430 yard, par 72 layout.
Sturdivant, who joined the Tour two months into the season, missing the first 8 events on the schedule, has managed to take over the lead in the yearlong Points Standings race for the Pinehurst Tour in the Championship Flight.
Mike Smith of Lewisville once again topped the A Flight with a 74 and a single stroke win over Mike Allison of Durham. Smith wasn't the only player to go low other than the Championship Flight. Pittsboro's Richard Pfister shot a sizzling 74 (from the shorter 5,906 yard White tees) to win the B Flight crown. Pfister's score bettered his last round on Tour by a mere 17 stokes and his previous low round of the year by 9.
In C Flight action, the top three finishers all live in Raleigh. Darrell Hagwood managed to nip both John Hall and Benny Miller by a single stroke with an 83.
