Jimmy Dollar winner at Twelve Oaks!
Holly Springs, NC (June 10, 2010) - Craig Sturdivant of Sanford won the Championship Flight competition on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour today for his second consecutive win in a Tour event. Last week his 2-under par 70 at Seven Lakes Country Club took top honors in the flight, and he followed up that effort today with a 73 for a 1-shot win over Mitch Whitley of Zebulon and Cary's James Dill while playing The Club at 12 Oaks.
"This is the first time I've played this course", stated Sturdivant. "It's a great track".
The Nicklaus - designed course, a private venue which opened last year, was in terrific shape. "This course has grown in remarkably well for the short time its been open", noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "It's as good as we've played in the 12 years I've been running this Tour".
Sturdivant and the other Championship Flight members will have company in the future, as Greensboro's Charles Smith, playing in the A Flight, also won his second Tour start in as many tries. "I expected to be moving up (to the Championship Flight)" stated Smith, as he accepted his $180.00 MasterCard First Prize.
"I think Charles is gonna do some damage playing with the big boys" quipped Hallenbeck.
Smith fired a 75 to edge Bob McQueen of Hope Mills and Knoxville, Tennessee's Tommy Lee by a single stroke.
In B Flight action, Durham's George Paris, playing in his very first Tour event, took the top spot with an 80 and a relatively comfortable 4-stroke margin over Greensboro's Lewis Burgman and Durham's Ed Lothes. The C Flight saw Franklinton's Jimmy Dollar post an 88 for 1st place, followed closely by 2 Triad-area players - Jim Pritchett of Winston-Salem and Whitsett's Earl Roe who both posted 89s.
