ACE HIGHLIGHTS SENIOR AM TOUR EVENT

Clemmons, NC (May 6, 2010) - Fayetteville's David Teal had played golf for 47 years without a hole-in-one. "You start thinking 'am I ever gonna get one' ", said Teal. Today was his day in the Senior Amateur Tour event held at Bermuda Run West Country Club.
On the short, 129 yard, par-3, 8th hole, Teal smoothed a pitching wedge right at the target. "It went up in the air just like a wedge is supposed to", noted Teal. "I didn't see it, but the other guys in my group said it went in and started hi-fiving me. When we got to the green, the ball wasn't where I thought it would be - it was where it was supposed to be - in the hole"!
Teal's ace helped him to a 77 and a 3rd place finish in the A Flight in back of Galax' John Ashby, who posted a 72, and Winston-Salem's Mark Robinson who finished with a 76. Ashby's round was highlighted by 10 one-putt greens.
Larry Southern of King had the lowest round of the event in the Championship Flight with a 1 over 71. He needed every stroke, edging both Pinehurst's Ken Eichele and Brodie Baker of Clemmons by a single shot. It was Eichele's 2nd 72 in as many events.
Ron Vanderklok of Advance gave a great example of "home-cooking" as the Bermuda Run member posted a 74 for a 3-stroke margin of victory over Pinehurst's Tom Kubla in the B Flight. A pair of Greensboro golfers posted 79s - Travis Jones and Clayton Henry.
It took extra holes to determine the C Flight winner as Gary Niland of Mount Airy chipped in for the victory on the 1st hole of a sudden death playoff against Apex' Gary Ransom. Both shot 81 during their regulation 18 holes. "I'm proud of the C Flight as a whole today" said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "Last week only 4 of 25 guys broke 90. This week 20 of the 31 flight members notched that milestone - a number for their 1st time in Tour play this year".
Tour action resumes next Thursday at Pinewood Country Club in Asheboro. Any amateur golfer over 50 interested in playing in a Senior Tour event can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com.
