Tournament Recap
A Day to Celebrate Competition, Community, and Larry Maitland

Some tournaments are about scores. Some are about trophies. This one was about something bigger.

The Larry Maitland Appreciation Classic gave the Virginia Senior Tour a chance to compete, celebrate, and most importantly recognize a man who has given so much to this Tour. Larry Maitland has been a major part of the Virginia Senior Tour’s growth, leadership, and community, and this event gave players the opportunity to honor him properly as he steps away from the Tour Director’s chair.

Larry’s legacy is not only found in tournaments run, schedules built, or scorecards posted. It is found in the players he supported, the friendships he helped create, and the standard he set for what this Tour can be.

On the course, the competition delivered. The Champ Flight needed a playoff to decide a winner, and every flight produced strong performances from players who stepped up when it mattered.

When the day was done, five champions stood above the field — but the real story was bigger than the leaderboard.

Thank you, Larry.

Flight Champions
Five Flights. Five Champions.

Champ Flight: A tie at the top forced a playoff, and Jon Collier stepped up when it mattered. The playoff ended in one hole, with Jon coming out on top and Terrance Bordley taking second.

A Flight: Ron Sullins delivered one of the best rounds of the day, firing an incredible 73 to claim the victory. Jeff Doss finished second, with Freddie Lee coming in third.

B Flight: Len Winslow led the way with a strong 79. Gary Cooper applied pressure and finished second, while Tour Director Sean Redmond went one under on the back nine and climbed almost the entire leaderboard to finish third.

C Flight: Nealan Chandler came out on top with an 81, holding off Michael Adams in second and Tom Grenell in third.

D Flight: Warren Dalton secured the win with an 85. Jimmie Williams did his best to close the gap and finished second, while Arthur Baxter rounded out the top three.
