The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour rode into Asheboro on Thursday May 28th to compete on one of our tour’s favorite venues. Good weather and fine course conditions allowed for some dandy scores.
In the Champ flight, Chris Gooch fired a fine round of golf posting a one over par 73 to take a three shot victory. Great golf Chris! Kevin Mcdougald claimed the runner up spot with a round of 76. Third place was a T3 finish with Dale Fogarty and Steve Lassiter matching scorecards with a couple of 77’s. And Jeff Eddins rounded out the top five scoring with a 79.
Shawn Cacioppo continued his great play by shooting a great round of two over par 74 to capture a four stroke victory. It was Shawn’s second win in the A flight this season. Outstanding golf Shawn! Jay Yergeau carded an excellent 78 en route to the runner up finish, while Bobby Shipwash’s 79 gave him the third place spot. Fourth place was a T4 ending for Bill Phillips from the CharlotteTour, and our Tour Director Chuck Smith, with both players turning in scores of 80.
Eighteen holes of regulation golf did not produce a winner in the B flight as Carnell Luckett from the Eastern NC Tour, and Michael Broadway reported to the scoring table with identical scores of 87. As always, Tour Manual rules require an on course playoff for first place, so Carnell and Michael met at hole one. Tee shots flew and the game was on. The players made it to the green, where Michael made bogey, while Carnell rolled in a par putt to take the victory. Congrats Carnell, and well done! Third place was a three way tie as Wilson Shelton, Ben Martin, and Russell McDonald from the Charlotte Tour, all returned rounds of 89.
In the C flight, Keith Meeks got off to a hot start, kept it going, and held off the field with a great round of 84 to grab his first win on tour. Excellent golf Keith! Mike Turbeville notched the runner up position with a fine round of 85, while Ken White from the Charlotte Tour pulled down third place by posting an 86. Dan Keddie from the Charlotte Tour ended the day in fourth place with a score of 88, and Mike Groom closed out the top five scoring with his 89.
In the D flight, Kelly Brown put together an excellent round of 89 to take the five shot victory, and his second win back to back. Terrific golf Kelly! Brian Mosbaugh, and Tom Nun from the Charlotte Tour, shared the runner up honors with matching rounds of 94. Steve Howard snagged fourth place with his score of 95, and fifth place belonged to Richard Pfister’s round of 96.
