On Tuesday, May 5th, Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour took a short trip to Thomasville to take on the fabulous Colonial CC. They were greeted by sunny skies, great conditions, and fast greens.
In the Champ flight, Dale Fogarty continued his consistent play by posting a two over par round of 73 on the par 71 Colonial layout. Well done Dale! Kevin Mcdougald was runner up this Tuesday with his round of 83.
Paul Hundhammer also continued his consistent play in the A flight, carding a score of 78 to win his second consecutive event by four shots. Great golf Paul! Our very own Tour Director Chuck Smith took the runner up honors with a round of 82. Third place was a T3 finish with Michael Smith, and Scott Ide from the Charlotte Tour, recording matching scores of 83. Fifth place was also a tie as Ron Brady, and Steve High from the Virginia Tour shot matching 84’s to round out the top six.
In the B flight, eighteen holes of golf did not determine a winner. Michael Broadway, and Eric Walker from the Charlotte Tour, turned in identical scores of 82 that triggered an on course playoff as per the Tour Manual. The sudden victory playoff started on hole one. It also ended on hole one as Michael sank a putt for par that Eric was unable to cover. Awesome golf Michael! Third place turned into a T3 as Russell McDonald visiting from the Charlotte Tour and Gil Ro reported in with a couple of 84’s. Meanwhile, fifth place was a three way tie with Gene Jones, Mike Wolstenholme, and Curtis Allison all finishing their day with rounds of 85.
Another playoff was required, in the C flight this time. Mike Groom, and Mike Grant visiting from the Charlotte Tour, ended regulation play tied at 84. The players teed off hole one to find out who would be taking home the hardware. Mike Groom snagged the victory on the first hole, due partially to an errant shot from Mike Grant. It’s a hard game. Kudos Mike, and Congrats! Keith Meeks grabbed third place shooting an 85, while Patrick Warren reported an 86 to the scoring table to take fourth. Ken White from the Charlotte Tour completed the top five scoring with an 87.
In the D flight, Kelly Brown didn’t need extra holes to take down his first win of the season. His 87 was good enough to claim a six shot victory. Outstanding golf Kelly! Steve Howard’s 93 gave him the runner up position, while Tour Director Sola Smith and Brian Mosbaugh ended their day T3 with a pair of 97’s. Jim Witko landed in the fifth spot by posting a round of 99.
Next up for Central Carolina is the perennial favorite Pinewood CC in Asheboro. We have a 9:30am shotgun start on Thursday May 28th. Sign up now so you make the sign up roster!
