Thursday April 9th the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf tour roared into Lexington to face Sapona Golf Club. The weather was cool at the beginning of the shotgun start but eventually became more comfortable.
The Champ flight was won by Roger ‘Dale’ Fogarty with a round of two over par 74. Congrats Roger!
In the A flight, Donnie Pritt from the Eastern NC Tour pulled off a single shot victory with a round of 77. Awesome golf Donnie! Jay Yergeau was runner up Thursday with his score of 78. Johnny Sears and Ron Brady ended their day T3 with matching scores of 80, while Michael Smith rounded out the top five with a round of 83.
Dennis Mason also pulled out a single stroke victory in the B flight with an excellent round of 75. Outstanding golf Dennis! Second place was claimed by Dave Turner with his own fine round of 76. Bobby Shipwash captured third place by carding a 78, while Mike Wolstenholme recorded a score of 81 in the fourth place finish. Fifth place was a FIVE way tie as Steven Williamson from the Charlotte Tour, Gene Jones, Wilson Shelton, Jim Taylor, and Michael Broadway ALL fired rounds of 84.
In the C flight, there was no single shot win. Mike Grant from the Charlotte Tour got off to an excellent start and kept the pedal to the metal to finish with a score of 83 in a seven stroke win. Well played Mike! Runner up Patrick Warren posted a round of 90, while Keith Meeks turned in 92 to snag third place. Fourth place was a T4 as Mike Groom and Rick Kohan matched scorecards with a couple of 94’s.
In the D flight eighteen holes of golf failed to produce an outright winner so a mandatory sudden victory playoff was required. Mike Sizemore and Kelly Brown were tied at the end of regulation with rounds of 96, so they proceeded to hole one to determine the winner. Mike found the fairway with his first shot, but Kelly had a tree issue and forced him to just get his ball back into play. Play continued to the green of the par 5 where Mike’s par putt dropped but the Kelly tree proved to be too much to overcome. Great golf Mike and congrats on the win! The obvious runner up was Kelly, and Richard Pfister’s 97 placed him into third place. Fourth place was wrapped up by Brian Mosbaugh with a round of 98, while Jim Witko closed out the top five scoring by shooting a 99.
