On Thursday Feb 12th, Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour arrived in Southern Pines to tackle Hyland GC. The weather was cool but the golfers were hot!
In the Champ flight, Eli Villanueva shot a nice one over par round of 73 to notch his second consecutive victory. Well done Eli! Dean Parziale grabbed the runner up position with a round of 75, while Gerald Lewis took third place with a 78. Fourth place was a T4 ending as Steve Lassiter and Kevin McDougald returned matching scores of 80.
Despite the cooler temps, Ron Brady started out hot in the A flight and stayed that way to the end finishing with a round of two under par 70. Outstanding golf Ron! Johnny Sears finished in second with his score of 73, as Jay Yergeau and Mike Atwood ended the round T3 with a pair of 75’s. Fifth place also was a tie with Courtney Messingham from the Eastern NC Tour and Les Rand recording identical scores of 76.
The hot golf continued into the B flight as Mike Wolshenholme posted a great round of even par 72 in a seven shot win. Awesome golf Mike! Cisco Almodovar’s 79 was the second place score, while Michael Broadway placed third shooting 80. Fourth place was claimed by Dave Turner with his round of 81, and David Sigers checked in from the Eastern NC Tour to take fifth with an 82.
In the C flight, Mike Groom shot a round of 86 en route to the two stroke victory in his first event of the new season. Great job Mike! The runner up slot was shared by two players as Brian Headley and James Adamski both finished their day with rounds of 88. Benton Smith snagged fourth place by shooting 91, while Herbert Seal rounded out the top five scores carding a 99.
Another hot score was turned in by Marty Carpenter in the D flight. He fired a round of 80 giving him the win. Well played Marty! Cal Rogers took the runner up honors with a score of 89, while Michael Kessler captured third place by posting 91. Steve Howard shot 92 to take fourth place home and Jim Witko completed the top five scoring shooting 93.
Next up for Central Carolina will be the Keith Hills Golf Club at Campbell University in Lillington on Thur Feb 26th. It’s a 10am shotgun start. If you haven’t had the pleasure before, get online and sign up. You don’t want to miss this gem. You won’t be sorry.
