The Central Carolina Tour put on The Jimmy Smith Memorial event at The Golf Club at Quail Ridge in Sanford on Thursday June 11th. The temperature was very warm, as were quite a few players.
In the Champ flight, Dale Fuller from the Eastern NC Tour made his drive to Sanford worthwhile as he fired off an excellent three under par 69 capturing a four shot victory. Awesome golf Dale! Jorge Puello, and Brian Hollendsworth from the Eastern NC Tour shared runner up honors with matching one over par rounds of 73. Fourth place was snagged by Randy Townsend(ENC) with a round of 74, while fifth place was a T5 as Dean Parziale and Chris Gooch recorded identical 75’s. Dale Fogarty was seventh by carding 76.
Tom Dawson (ENC) got off to a hot start in the A flight and carried it through all the way to the eighteenth hole. His one over par 73 held up for a two shot win. Well played Tom! Jay Yergeau claimed runner up honors with his round of 75, while Ken Gray(ENC) posted 76 in a third place ending. Glenn Brown(ENC) turned in a score of 77 to take fourth place, while Courtney Messingham(ENC) and Scotty Scott ended their event with a couple of 78’s. Ron Brady held on to seventh place with a 79.
In the B flight, Wilson Shelton put together an excellent three over par 75 round of golf, holding back his numerous chasers by a single stroke. It was Wilsons’ first win this season. Great golf and congrats Wilson! Dave Turner wrapped up the runner up spot with a score of 76, while Brad Sasser(ENC) and Ben Martin completed their day with matching 77’s. Cisco Almodovar rounded out the top five scoring with an 80 round, while sixth place was a three way tie with Lyman Howard(ENC), Brad Wilson, and Todd Vick(ENC) all reporting to the scoring table with scores of 81.
Terry Westenfeld came all the way from Augusta GA to claim the victory in the C flight. Terry’s round of 80 gave him the win by five shots. Excellent golf Terry! Keith Meeks’s score of 85 made him the recipient of the runner up honors, while James Tripp(ENC) placed third with his round of 87. Alan Stallings(ENC) shot a round of 88 to place fourth, and Brian Headley completed the top five scoring with an 89. Pattina Martinez(ENC) and Trevor Horne(ENC) both checked in with scores of 90.
In the D flight, Kelly Brown came out firing on all cylinders, and came out on top of the very crowded flight by posting a very consistent 82. Outstanding golf Kelly! After a valiant chase, Adam Grayson(ENC) took control of the runner up slot with his 84. Michael Kessler snagged third place carding 85, while our very own Tour Director Sola Smith placed fourth with an 89. Fifth place was a T5 with Rat Williams(ENC) and Jamie Hill(ENC) both turning in 90 scores, while seventh was T7 as Gary Bascom(ENC) and Eric Smith returned scores of 95.
