Carolina Trace CC June 27, 2027

On Thursday June 25th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour made their way to the Carolina Trace CC in Sanford to take on the Lakes Course. The weather was warm and scores were warmer.

In the Champ flight, Randy Hanna was red hot from the time he stepped onto the first tee. His excellent three under par score of 69 made him a three shot winner. Outstanding golf Randy!  The runner up honor had to be shared Thursday as Dale Fogarty and Eli Villanueva recorded identical scores of even par 72. Kevin Mcdougald placed fourth with a round of 74, while Chris Gooch rounded out the top five scoring with a round of 75.

A Tour Manual mandatory playoff took place in the A flight because Brien Cozart from the Eastern NC Tour and Shawn Cacioppo ended regulation play with matching rounds of 79. Hole one failed to produce a winner as Brien and Shawn tied scores again, so off to hole two they went. Upon reaching the second green, Brien rolled in a putt for par to top Shawn’s bogie. Awesome golf Brien!  Ron Brady captured runner up honors with his score of 83. Michael Smith snagged fourth place by shooting 84, while Jay Yergeau closed the top five scoring with an 85.

In the B flight, Jim Scofield fired off a nice score of 81 to rack up the three stroke victory. Great golf Jim!  Michael Broadway grabbed second place with a round of 84, as Michael Schwind shot 85 to take third place. Fourth place became a T4 as, get ready, Steve High and Steve High posted matching scores of 88. By the way, Steve High is from the Virginia Tour and Steve High is from the Eastern NC Tour.  You’re welcome!!

Another playoff became necessary when Mike Turbeville and Keith Meeks both reported to the storing table with 83’s on their scorecards. Mike and Keith took off to hole one to determine who would take home the hardware this Thursday. It turned out it would be Mike whose par on the first hole was just enough to pull it out. That gave Mike the win, his first this season, and that got added to his hole-in-one earlier! Not a bad day of golf Mike!! Congrats!! Of course, Keith was runner up, while Brian Headley claimed third place with his round of 85. Rich Henn from the Eastern NC Tour took down fourth place posting 92, while James McPherson completed the top five scoring with a 96.

Richard Pfister was pretty much on cruise control in the D flight from the first hole on. His round of 85 gave Rick the six stroke victory, his first of the season. Excellent golf Richard!  Michael Kessler was the runner up by carding a 91. Third place was a three way tie as Jim Witko, our very own Tour Director Sola Smith, and Rat Williams from the Eastern NC Tour, all fired rounds of 92.

After a brief break, the Central Carolina Senior Tour resumes play on Thursday July 16th at Cypress Lakes GC in Hope Mills. It’s a 10am shotgun start. After a break you will be ready for some  competition so sign up today and join us on the 16th.
