On Thursday August 27th, the Central Carolina Senior Tour returned to Forest Oaks to do battle with ‘The Oaks’ and the competition. The weather was pleasant and the course was in good condition.
Chris Gooch started well and continued to do so en route to an excellent one over par round of 73. That gave Chris a second win in eight days. Outstanding golf Chris! The runner up honor was shared by Steve Reynolds and Kevin Macdougald with matching scores of 77. Dale Fogarty slipped in a fourth place finish carding a 78, while Spurling Cook rounded out the top five scoring with a 79.
Eighteen holes of golf was not enough to determine a winner in the A flight as Ron Brady, Dave Turner, and Dan Anthony all matched scorecards with rounds of 77. Tour manual rules require an on course playoff for first place, so Ron, Dave, and Dan, took off for hole one to take care of business. On the first playoff hole, Dan was unable to match the pars of Ron and Dave so he fell out of the playoff. Ron and Dave played on, tying the next two holes. On the fourth playoff hole, Ron sank a par putt that Dave was unable to cover, which gave Ron a hard earned victory. Awesome golf Ron, and Congrats! Dave and Dan became the obvious runners up. Meanwhile, fourth place was also a tie as Jay Yergeau and Bo Crooks just missed making it a five way tie by posting a pair of 78’s.
In the B flight, Wilson Shelton shot a round of 78 to take a two shot victory. It was Wilson’s second win of the season. Great golf Wilson, and Congrats! Mike Wolstenholme claimed second place with his round of 80, while Michael Broadway turned in an 81 to snag third place. Michael Schwind ended his day in fourth place with an 83, as Rob Andrews, and Carnell Luckett from the Eastern NC Tour, closed out the top five scoring with identical scores of 84.
Mike Turbeville was hot from the start in the C flight, and rolled along to the end where he posted a great three over par 75 round in a six shot victory. Well played round Mike! The runner up score of 81 was recorded by Mark Underwood, while Kelly Brown wrapped up third place with his round of 85. Keith Meeks reported to the scoring table with a round of 87, and James McPherson closed out the top five scoring by posting 89.
In the D flight, Benton Smith shot a nice smooth round of 88 to capture his first win of the season by two shots. Excellent golf Benton, and Congrats! The runner up honor was HAPPILY shared by Richard Pfister and Tom Kubla with matching rounds of 90. Mike Sizemore knocked out a round of 92 to notch a fourth place finish, while John McAleese from the Augusta Tour and our very own Tour Director Sola Smith carded identical 93’s in fifth place.
