Tanglewood Golf Course

The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour took a short trip west to take on the fabulous Tanglewood Champion Golf Course on Thursday August 20th. The temps continued above average, but the conditions were excellent with some challenging rough.

Chris Gooch came out of the gate firing on ALL cylinders in the Champ flight. His six under par score of 64 on the par 70 layout is an excellent achievement. A nine shot win is also a great feat against very talented golfers. Outstanding golf Chris, and Congrats!  The twin runner up scores   of 73 were posted by Scott Sperber from the Charlotte Tour and Eli Villanueva, while Dale Fogarty ended his day in fourth place by carding 77.

In the A flight, Donnie Pritt also put together a great round of golf. His round of one over par 71 proved to be a winning score by two shots. Awesome golf Donnie!  The runner up score of 73 was turned in by Michael Smith. Meanwhile, third place was a three way tie as Mark Harper, Chris Ludwig, and John East all managed to shoot the same score of 76.

The B flights Dave Turner reported to the scoring table with his first winning scorecard  this season. Dave’s 73 gave him a six shot victory. Great golf Dave!  John Rinaldi from the Charlotte Tour carded the runner up score of 79, while Jim Scofield grabbed third place with a score of 80. Fourth place was a T4 ending as Malcolm Niven from the Charlotte Tour and Curtis Allison turned in matching scores of 82.

The winning score in the C flight was reported to the scoring table by Mike Groom. Mike’s 84 was good for a five shot victory. Excellent golf Mike!  The runner up honors had to be shared by two players, David Teague, and  Derek Loughlin from the Charlotte Tour, who finished their day with a pair of 89’s. Fourth place was snagged by William McDonald with his round of 90, while Rick Kohan and Mark Underwood completed the top five scoring with duplicate scores of 91.

Eighteen holes of golf was not enough to determine a winner in the D flight as Bob Shefte from the Charlotte Tour and Mike Sizemore matched scorecards with rounds of 86. Tour manual rules require an on course playoff for first place, so Bob and Mike took off for hole one to take care of business.

On that first hole Mike’s par putt just missed the hole for bogey. Bob’s par putt did not miss the hole and found the bottom of the cup. Well done Bob, and Congrats!  Kelly Brown captured third place with a score of 88, while Jim Witko and Steve Howard ended their event T4 with scores of 92.

Next up for Central Carolina is Forest Oaks, (not Whispering Woods), the Turfmasters Tournament @ Forest Oaks, in Greensboro on Thursday August 27th with a 9:00am shotgun start!  Come out and join us!
