The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour took a jaunt to Fayetteville on Thursday July 30th to tackle Gates Four Golf & Country Club. Eastern North Carolina Tour joined in the fun competing in the fourth in the series of four competitions over the 2026 season. The weather was sunny and warm and the competition was fierce.
In the Champ flight, Randy Townsend from the Eastern NC Tour, was red hot from the start. Randy shot a great round of three under par 69 to capture a two stroke victory. Outstanding golf Randy! Stan Adams, also from the Eastern NC Tour, was runner up with an excellent round of one under par 71, while Dale Fogarty placed third with a fine even par score. Eli Villanueva grabbed fourth place with a round of 73, and Dean Parziale wrapped up the top five scoring by carding 75. Honorable mention to ENC Tour Director Marty Martinez with his 76.
John East put together a consistent round of golf in the A flight posting a score of even par 72 to take the two shot victory. Awesome golf John! Two back in the runner up slot Jay Yergeau posted 74, while Mike Lane snagged third place by shooting 76. Fourth place was snapped up by Courtney Messingham from the ENC Tour with a 77, and taking fifth place Mike Atwood shot 78. Sixth place was a four way tie as Donnie Pritt (ENC), Chris Rowland, Brookes Roberts, and Bo Crooks all recorded scores of 79.
In the B flight, eighteen holes of golf was not enough to determine a winner as Owen Cuddington from the ENC Tour and Bryan Baquer also ENC Tour matched scorecards with rounds of 77. Tour manual rules require an on course playoff for first place, so Owen and Bryan took off for hole one to take care of business. Hole one was matched with pars, and the second hole tied with a couple of bogeys. Bryan’s bogey did not hold up on the third green as Owen’s par putt found the bottom of the cup. Congrats Owen, well played! Bryan was the obvious runner up, while Cisco Almodovar, and Allen Bailey from the Eastern NC Tour landed in a T3 finish with matching rounds of 83. Fifth place became a three way tie as three ENC Tour players, James Thompson, Andy Lane, and Tim Wall, all reported to the scoring table with identical scores of 84.
Eighteen holes of golf was not enough to determine a winner in the C flight as Dallas Shackleford and Keith Meeks matched scorecards with rounds of 83. Tour manual rules require an on course playoff for first place, so Dallas and Keith took off for hole one to take care of business. On that first hole Keith’s par putt just missed the hole for par giving him a bogey. Dallas’s par putt did not miss the hole and found the bottom of the cup. Congrats Dallas, excellent golf! Keith was the obvious runner up, while Mike Turbeville landed in third with a round of 84. Alan Stallings from the ENC Tour, ended the day in fourth place carding a round of 85, while Gerald Horton (ENC) completed the top five positions by shooting 86. Trevor Horne (ENC) seized sixth place by turning in 87, while Patrick Warren and James McPherson shared seventh place with a pair of 89’s.
In the D flight, Rat Williams from the Eastern NC Tour, made good use of his drive west as he came out on top by two firing a great round of 83. Great golf Dallas! Benton Smith was runner up shooting 85, while Marty Carpenter’s 88 gave him the third place position. Barry Gascom (ENC) took down the fourth place spot, while ENC Tour Director Pattina Martinez rounded out the top five scoring with her score of 93. Sixth place was a T6 finale with Tom Earley (ENC), and Jim Witko both compiling scores of 94.
After a brief break, next up for Central Carolina it’s the fabulous Tanglewood Park Champion Course in Clemmons on Aug 20th with an 8:30 straight tee time start.
Since opening in 1958, the Tanglewood Championship course has consistently ranked as one of the top public courses in the nation and has a deep, rich tradition of hosting some of golf's most prestigious tournaments; the most notable being the 1974 PGA Championship.
It also hosted the PGA Vantage Championship (1988–2002), and underwent a major 2018 renovation led by Robert Trent Jones II.
