On Thursday July 16th, Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour took a short trip to Hope Mills for a rumble with Cypress Lakes GC. Warm temps continued and players took advantage.
In the Champ flight, Dale Fogarty shot out of the gate like a thoroughbred and fired an even par round of 72 to win by two strokes. Outstanding golf Dale! Eli Villanueva grabbed runner up honors with a 74, while Chris Gooch placed third with a score of 80.
It was a battle all day in the A flight. And when the fight ended and the dust settled, Paul Hundhammer was alone at the top of the scoreboard with an excellent round of one over par 73. Awesome golf Paul! Donnie Pritt from the Eastern NC Tour snagged the runner up spot carding 74, while Mark Harper posted 76 to take third place. Bo Crooks claimed fourth place with a score of 77, and fifth place was a T5 with Eddie Jaggers and Ron Brady both recording 79.
In the B flight, Johnny Adams from the Eastern NC Tour made his trip more worthwhile as he shot 75 for a four shot victory. Great golf Johnny! Carnell Luckett, also from the Eastern NC Tour, was alone in second place with his round of 79. Meanwhile, third place was a three way tie as Michael Schwind, Dave Turner, and Ben Martin all reported scores of 83 to the scoring table.
Patrick Warren in the C flight got off to a great start, and kept it rolling long enough to shoot 81 and pull off a narrow one shot victory. Excellent golf Patrick! Keith Meeks chased Patrick all day long and took runner up honors with an 82. Joe Porter from the Eastern NC Tour carded 85 to take third place, while Mike Turbeville and William McDonald rounded out the top five scoring with a pair of 87’s.
Eighteen holes of golf was not enough to determine a winner in the D flight as Michael Kessler and Kelly Brown matched scorecards with rounds of 86. Tour manual rules require an on course playoff for first place, so Mike and Kelly took off for hole one to take care of business. Kelly’s bogey did not hold up on the first green as Mike’s par putt found the bottom of the cup. Congrats Mike, well played! Kelly was the obvious runner up, while Jamie Hill from the Eastern NC Tour landed in third place with a round of 89. Benton Smith and Steve Howard completed the top five scoring as both players shot 90.
Next up for the Central Carolina Tour is Gates Four Golf & Country Club in Fayetteville on Thursday July 30th, with a 10am shotgun start.
This will be the fourth and final Series Event with Eastern, come out and enjoy some good competition!!!
