The Senior Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour took a little ride to Whitsett on Tuesday September 8th to give Stoney Creek Golf Club their best effort. Here's how that toasty warm day went!
In the Champ flight, Chris Gooch continued his fine play by firing an excellent three over par 74 on the 71 par layout to capture a two shot victory. Outstanding golf Chris! Runner up Kevin Mcdougald posted a solid round of 76. Dale Fogarty claimed third place by carding 77, while Spurling Cook grabbed fourth place with a score of 89.
Danny Sweetman from the Charlotte Tour made a relatively short trip to tussle with the Stoney Creek course and other tour members in the A flight. When he turned in his scorecard at the scoring table, his round of 78 gave him a two shot victory. Awesome golf Danny! Michael Smith, Jay Yergeau, and John East all posted rounds of 80 to share the runner up honors. And fifth place was a T5 with Tour Director Chuck Smith and Dan Anthony both recording scores of 81.
In the B flight, Patrick Porter from the Charlotte Tour made his trip a little extra special by not only shooting 79, but taking the four shot victory. Great golf Patrick! Second place was a T2 as Michael Broadway and Ben Martin matched scorecards with identical 83’s, while fourth place was a T4 with Rob Andrews and Mike Wolstenholme returning rounds of 84.
Eighteen holes of golf was not enough to determine a winner in the C flight as Mike Groom and Patrick Warren matched scorecards with rounds of 84. Tour manual rules require an on course playoff for first place, so Mike and Patrick took off for hole one to take care of business. Both players continued their excellent play and tied playoff holes one and two. When they reached the third hole, Patrick’s par putt slid by the hole, but Mike’s found the bottom of the cup giving him the win. Inspirational golf Mike, and Congrats! Runner up was obviously Patrick, well played, while Keith Meeks grabbed third place with a round of 86. Fourth place was snagged by the returning Edward McNally with his round of 89, while Mark Underwood closed out the top five scores with a 91.
In the D flight, Benton Smith posted a smooth consistent round of 90 to hang onto a two stroke victory and give him back to back wins. Excellent golf Benton! The runner up slot was tied and shared with 92’s by Richard Pfister and Jim Witko. Third place was filled by our very own Tour Director Sola Smith carding 94, while Lisa Robertson from the Eastern NC Tour completed the top five scoring with her round of 95.
Next up for Central Carolina is the season finale at Anderson Creek Golf Club in Spring Lake on Thursday September 17th with a 10:00am shotgun start. Come out and get in that last official Central Carolina tournament!
