The 2009 Harris Teeter Senior Tour completed its 11th tournament of the season at River Hills CC. Thanks to Gary Troyan and the staff at River Hills for all the great work and course conditions. The toughest course on tour to score once again proved to be a formidable task for all flights. Championship Flight: Jim Hunsuck won by the largest margin this year on tour in Champ Flight: Jim’s round started with a (2) under par 34 on the front side but like everyone Wednesday big number were lurking and a triple bogie came on the par 4 15th to keep Jim from shooting one under par. Brad Kroll after making the turn at 43 probably said well lets just play skins on the back side, which he preceded to birdie number 10 & 13 to shoot a one under par 35. To his surprise his 78 was second low round of the day. Local member Mike Emory was the only other Champ Flight player to break 80, firing a 79 for third spot. A Flight: Lee Sargent and Bill Barnett played in the same group on Wednesday and pushed each other on every shot. Even after 18 holes were completed they remained tied at 79, but it was Sargent besting Barnett on the card for the first place victory. Harold Fisher another local member fired an 80 which was good enough for third spot. Rounding out the top five was Terry Lewis and Ron Ballew at 81. B Flight: Terry McClure continues to improve in B flight and captured the victory on Wednesday with a smooth 82. McClure just beat out 2 other players at 83 with Beattie Armstrong cashing out in second place and Mike Zimmerman getting third. 84 was the magic number for the fourth spot with Bill LoVine capturing it by beating Bill Maryman and Bill Holland on the card. C Flight: Hal Miller continued his improved play since May and beat Don Elsass by 2 shots at 83. Hal’s continued play has now moved him up to B flight for the rest of the season. Way to go Hal, we know you will do great in B flight for the remainder of the season. Don Elsass played his best golf of the year on the tough River Hills layout. Elsass finished in second place with 85. The only other person to break 90 in the flight was Bill Chaplin who finished in third place with 86. A Pair of 93’s rounded out the top five with Anthony Bruno besting Guy Shelley for 4th place. Congratulations to Gene Pharr who made an eagle “2” on the par four 7th hole. The tour stops next week at the newly redone River Run CC. The course is in the best shape it could possibly be in from all the reports I have received. Don’t miss this one as it is almost full.
