Richard Matheny (Champ) Lee Sargent (A Flight) Harold Soutier (C Flight) winners!
The 2009 Harris Teeter Senior Tour completed its 9th tournament of the season at the brand new course Edgewater in Lancaster, SC. Thanks to all the staff at Edgewater for the best greens we have played all season. Great response to the course we look forward to coming back next year. Championship Flight: Richard Matheny tasted victory for the first time this season winning by three shots with a 73. Matheny beat a log jam a players ties at 76. Jim Buchanan got it going on the back nine to secure second place on the card playoff. John Burton got 3rd place and David Watterworth finished in fourth. A Flight: Lee Sargent had been at Edgewater all week watching his son David compete in a junior tournament. All the observing must have helped him as he fired his lowest round of the season, a 74 to finish in first place. Finishing three behind Lee was points leader Terry Lewis with 77. Cletis Dozier was the only other A Flight player to break 80 and finished in third place Wednesday with 79. A pair or 80’s from Mike Harter and Alan Skelton tied for 4th spot with Harter winning out on the playoff. B Flight: Lonnie Nichols and Steve Starnes finish the day ties for first spot with 78’s. Nichols beat out Starnes for first place on the card playoff. Max Mast finally got his game back on track finishing in third place with a smooth 80. Then a host a players posted 83’s with John Kenyon Muir beating out the others on the card for fourth place. C Flight: Long time tour member Harold Soutier came to me in mid April and said he might stop playing on tour because he was so disgusted with his game. One month later Harold fires his best round ever on tour to capture his first win of the season. Soutiers 81 nipped out point’s leader Don Elsass by just two shots. Elsass finished in second place with an 83. Three players shot 86’s and it was Hal Miller finishing third, Ciro Vitiello in fourth and Sindo Mayor rounding out the top five. Once again all the flights were very tightly contested. For full view of the results just go to the web page and click on tournament results.
