Powers shoots 69; Friel and Greiner win in sudden-death; Holland wins and gets promoted to "B" Flight!

Championship Flight: Ken Powers fired the first under par round of the 2010 season at Piper Glen on Monday. Powers lit up the front nine by shooting 33 and then cruised on the back nine with one bogey one birdie even par 36 for a 3 under par 69. Finishing in second place was Ted Cox with a nice even par round of 72. Newcomer Bob Desjardins captured third place with a 73 while Greg Powell finished fourth at 74. A Flight: 74 was the number for A Flight as Ted Friel and Gary Schatz both finished at this number. Friel beat out Schatz on the card playoff for his first victory of the season. Len McAlister continued his consistent play this year by finishing in third place with a 76. Robert Yopp and Tom Carbone both fired 77’s but it was Yopp beating out Carbone for the 4th spot. B Flight: William Greiner and Bill Maryman both shot 76 Monday to tie for first place. Greiner nipped Maryman on the card for his first event Senior Tour victory. A log jam at 81 saw 4 players fight out the top four spots. Bob Mayer and Ray Smith nipped out Howard Rohrer and newcomer John Leak for third and fourth place. C Flight: Bill Holland played his best round of the season firing a smooth 83, and saw his Senior Index fall to 12.8 which promotes Bill to the B flight for Edgewater. Right on Holland’s heels were a host of other players as Tony Schiffer and Joe Gendoes finished at 84. Schiffer beat out Gendoes on the card for second, while Jerry Hoogeveen got fourth on the card over Steve Sutherland. The next stop on tour takes us to the newest course on tour. Edgewater Golf Club in Lancaster, SC will be on April 28th a 10am shotgun start. Please email me back (Yes or No) if you planning to play Edgewater. Follow for 1.9 Miles. Bear right on Bethel Road (#S-29-187) just before Victory Worship Center. Follow for 1.6 Miles. Turn right on Bethel Boat Landing Road (#S-29-296). Follow for 2.7 Miles. Bethel Boat Landing Road becomes Catawba Ridge Boulevard Follow Catawba Ridge Boulevard for 2.8 miles, Golf Shop will be on your left. From I-77 Charlotte Take I-77 South Take exit 65 (Highway 9) At Highway 9, turn left and head South toward Lancaster, SC.
