Thanks to Adam and the staff at Cowans Ford CC for agin giving the tour perfect playing conditions. We look forward to coming back in 2010. Championship Flight: Ken Powers started out quickly at Cowans Ford on Wednesday. Powers birdied 4, 6 and 9 to make the front side turn at (3) under 33. The back however proved to be a little more challenging as he finished at 38, but still posted a first place win at 71. That win was significant as it gained back the 6o points he trailed Brad Kroll in the Champ Flight points race. Powers now leads by 10.5 points going into the final event of the season. Should be a great shoot-out for Powers and Kroll! Ted Cox finished in second place for the third straight event firing a 76. A log jam at 77 saw five players go into a playoff for 2 spots. Greg Powell and Tom Carbone finished in third and fourth place respectively. David Watterworth, Bill Beal and Richard Krapfel were left out of the money. A Flight: Lee Sargent master the slick greens and tough pin placements Wednesday by firing one of his best round of the season a 75 good enough for the victory. Rex Mills had Lee right in his sights and was even with him until his 13th hole. Mills ended up finishing in second place with 79. Mac Ellerbe back from the injured reserve list played well and fired an 80 for third spot. Rounding out the top four was Michael Maciejewski at 82. B Flight: Bill Maryman & local member Ray Smith finished tied at 79 on Wednesday. It took five playoff holes but Maryman ended up beating out Smith for the victory. Joe Burgess grabbed third spot with 81 while Bill Holland got 4th on the card over Chester Brileya and Lonnie Nichols. All three of them posted 83’s. C Flight: Matt Papes captured his first victory of the 2009 season by carding a smooth 83 on Wednesday. For Matt the win was great since he has been working so hard this year with his swing coach Robby over at Charlotte National. Finally the changes are starting to pay off. Don Boyd followed up last weeks win with a second place this week firing an 87. Larry Hinson shot 89 for third spot, and Points Leader Don Elsass beat out Jim Castello and Bill Church on the card for 4th place. Northstone next Wednesday 11/11/09 ends the regular season on the senior tour. Course assignments for the Senior Finals will be posted later today.
