Championship Flight: Mark Wagner edged out Jim Hunsuck for the win on Wednesday at Birkdale. Wagner made the turn at one under par and the birdied 10 and 13 to pull away from the field with an even par round of 72. Jim Hunsuck almost caught Wagner with a one under par back nine to finish in second place with 73. Butch English, Tom Carbone and Gary Schatz all tied with 75’s with English and Carbone winning on the card playoff. A Flight: Bob Boettner and Alan Skelton both finished tied at 79 after 18 holes on Wednesday. Boettner however captured his second victory of the season on the score card playoff. Len McAlister and Bill Barnett finished only one shot back at 80 and it was McAlister grabbing third on the card playoff. B Flight: It was a tail of two nines from Max Mast on Wednesday 43 on his first nine and then 36 on his second. Mast’s combined total of 79 was good enough for a one shot victory. Bill Maryman just missed a playoff by firing a smooth 80 for second spot. Joe Burgess, Lloyd Morris, Mike Edwards and John Love all tied at 82. Burgess nabbed third and Morris fourth on the scorecard playoff. C Flight: Richard Workman held it together to finish in first place with an 85. Gary Graham shot the same score and finished in the same position as he did in the last event. Graham fired an 86 good enough for second all alone. Don Elsass finished in third with 90, while tour vet Jimmy Taylor finally cashed with 91 for 4th. The tour stops next is a favorite Northstone CC on Wednesday 10/14.
