87 Golfers came out on this Wednesday morning for our first ever event at Ballantyne CC. The course was in fantastic shape. I want to say Thank You to the entire staff at Ballantyne for welcoming us and treating us so well. I heard nothing but compliments from the players as they left the course as to how great the course was. To Matt Saggio and Joe Maher who was there with me at 6:00 a.m. to assist with setup and was there when we completed everything at 4:00 p.m. THANK YOU.
In the Championship Flight, low scores were out there and the guys were making lots of birdies. Scott Patnode wins again in 2019 with a stellar round of 3 under par 69. Rob Fulford continues his strong play with a 2 under par round of 70 for second place. Third place went to Bruce Gantt who shot 1 under 71. Fourth place went to Mark Hodges with an even par round of 72. Fifth went to Bill Phillips who shot 71 and tied Jerry Sennett, but Bills back nine of 36 was used as the tie-breaker.
Due to a Carry over at the Senior Open, we had $390 carry over to the Champ/A Skins pool for this event. With the additional money ($410) added, we had 800 in the Champ/A Skins pool. When the round was over, we had 2 Champ/A Flight skins. Birdies on hole 14 (Rob Fulford) and hole 15 (Bill Phillips), each man took home $400 for their efforts. Bill took home a Super Skin as well as his birdie on 15 held for 1 of 2 super skins on the day for another $305. A hell of a day for Mr. Phillips.
In the A Flight, Wayne Kinley shoots a 1 over par round of 73 to take home the victory. Johnny Moffett takes second with a 3 over par round of 75. Scott Ide takes third with a 4 over par round of 76. 4 players tie for 4th shooting 5 over par 77. Using the Scorecards, Dave Wardrop takes 4th and Steve Garner takes home 5th.
In the B Flight, Bill Shaw shoots a 5 over par round of 77 to claim the victory. Second goes to Joe Cannatti who was leading going into hole 16, but +4 over over the last 3 holes cost him the victory. Joe's round of 79 was still good enough to claim second place. Third place goes Allston Moore with a round of 80 (+8), Fourth place goes to Kelly Straub with a round of 81 (+9) and Fifth goes to Blair Hall winning a scorecard playoff with Ron Mason and Joseph Delmaster, all players shooting 82 (+10).
In the C Flight, chaos ensued over the final few holes. What looked like a 2 man race between Lee Touchton and Randall Garver, ended in a scorecard playoff between Garver and David Cline who was hoping to finish in the top 3 as he finished about 30 minutes earlier that the leaders on the course. In the end, Garver wins a Scorecard playoff with Cline after both players shoot 83 (+11). Third place goes to Sindo Mayor with a score of 84. 3 players shoot 86 to tie for 4th. In the end, Tom Shiel takes 4th, Doug Raby takes 5th and Lee Touchton misses out on cashing. Don;t feel too bad for Lee as he still took home $379 after winning a flight skin and the other Super Skin on the day.
