Firethorne 2019 - Recap

It was a hot and humid day for the players as they battled the course and the other competitors on this Monday in July.  61 players came out and competed at this South Charlotte venue.

In the Championship Flight, Brian Swenson returns to the winner's circle with a 1 over par round of 73 to claim the victory. Jerry Sennett has to settle for second as a late double bogie on the 17th hole led to a score of 74 (+2).  Third goes to Dan Anthony (Central Carolina Tour) who shot 75 (+3).  George Harris claims 4th with a score of 76 (+4) and rounding out the top five was Casey Alexander with a score of 80 (+8).

In the A Flight, it came down to 2 men in the end.  Jim Goulding and Scott Ide battled throughout the afternoon and when the dust settled, Jim claimed the victory with a score of 75 (+3).  Scott takes second with a round of 76 (+4).  Mike Keffer begins to get his game back and finished 3rd with a score of 78 (+6).  Fourth place had to be settle by the scorecard playoff method as 3 golfers all shot 79 (+7).  In the end, Nolan Elenz (who recently moved from B Flight to A Flight) continues his strong play on the year and takes fourth.  Bob Olsen claims fifth just edging out Tim Woodward.

In the B Flight, Jack Beach claims his second victory of the year with a 1 shot victory shooting 77 (+5).  Bob Deaton takes second with a score of 78 (+6) .  Curtis Rosselle takes third with a score of 79 (+7).  Fourth and fifth had to be settle by the scorecard playoff as 2 golfers tied with 80 (+8).  In the end, Doug Harris takes home fourth place honors and Stephen Robert settles for fifth.

In the C Flight, Rondal Gibson takes home the victory as well as a promotion to the B Flight after his round of 85 (+13) moved his tour index below the 14.0 Flight.  Second thru fourth had to be settled via the scorecard playoff method as 3 golfers tied with 86 (+14).  In the end, Tom Johnson wins second, Chuck Snider claims third and Bill Holland claims fourth. Andre Banks rounds out the top 5 with a score of 88 (+16).

The big news of the afternoon came after the round when we found that nobody had won a super skin.  Due to this, we now carryover the $400 pot from this tournament to our next event at Lancaster Golf Club next week.  With an anticipated field size of close to 80 golfers, I would expect that the Super Skins pot for this event will be close to $1000.

Thanks for your support as always and I'll see you next week at Lancaster.
