I Beautiful Sunny afternoon greeted the 94 players at The Peninsula Club on Lake Norman. It was our largest field of the year and the course was in excellent shape for the players. This course will also host the opening round of the Senior Open Championship in August, so make sure you do not miss this two-day event with Northstone Club hosting the final round.
In the Championship Flight it was Local member Larry Griffin Jr. that fired his low round of the year shooting a 2 under par round of 70 to capture the 4-shot victory. Bill Phillips claims second with a score of 74. Third place goes to George Harris with a score of 77 and 4th and 5th went to the scorecards to settle the tie between 3 players. Jeff Brischke takes 4th and Casey Alexander takes 5th.
In the A Flight, Dave Wardrop claims his second victory of the year with a round of 76. Dave wins the scorecard playoff with Phil Seaman who continues his good play of late. Third went to Phil VanGeersdaelen, winning a scorecard playoff with Jim Goulding, both players shooting 78. Billy Cauthen rounds out the top five shooting 79 on the day.
In the B Flight, Stephen Roberts claims a 2-shot victory by shooting 78. Nolan Elenz takes second with a score of 80. Third thru Fifth had to be decided by a playoff after 3 players tied at 81. In the end, Dave Ezell takes third, Randall Gaston takes fourth and Rob Geilhausen rounds out the top 5.
In the C Flight, Joel Johnson claims a 2-shot victory shooting 83 on this day. Chuck Snider takes second after winning a scorecard playoff with Rondal Gibson, both players shot 85. Doug Raby take 4th place with a score of 86 and Tom Johnson wins another scorecard playoff to take 5th place shooting 87.
Our next event takes us to Pine Island CC on the 26th of June. Another 10:00 a.m. shotgun start.
