Palisades CC - May 22, 2019

Someone was looking out for us today as the temps only made it to the low 80's on Wednesday at Palisades CC.  It started out a little misty, but by the time we Tee'd off, the rain was gone and the temps were very bearable during the event.

We had our smallest field to date, but that did not stop some very good scores from showing up on the course.

In the Championship Flight, Mark Hodges (pictured above) posted the lowest round of the year so far on the Senior tour in Charlotte firing a 5 under par 67 on this day. Second place went to Brian Swenson (member at Palisades) who shot a 3 under par 69 which is normally is good enough for the win, but not today. Jeff Brischke takes third shooting 73, Bill Phillips collects fourth shooting 75 and George takes fifth shooting  76.

In the A Flight, Jim Goulding (pictured above) blew the field away shooting a 1 over par 73 on this day.  Second went to Johnny Moffet who was hoping to just finish in the top 10 after a rough start shooting 43 on his first 9 holes. But shooting even par over the final 9 will move you up the leader-board in a lot of flights and this was no exception.  Third went to Tim Woodward shooting 80, Fourth and Fifth were decided buy a scorecard playoff with Phil VanGeersdaelen taking fourth and Wayne Kinley taking fifth.

In the B Flight, 5 golfers were all within a shot of each other.  Randal Gaston (pictured above) Howard Lofton, and Nolan Elenz each shot 79 to finish in a Tie for first.  Going to the Scorecard to settle the tie, Gaston takes first, Lofton takes second and Elenz settle for third.  Only one shot back was Dave Ezell and Jack Beach, so back to the scorecards we went.  Ezell wins the playoff and takes fourth and Beach settles for fifth.

In the C Flight, Kevin Lepage (pictured above) wins his second event of the year beating out Rondal Gibson.  Both players shot 86 on the day.  Rondal needed an on course playoff vs the scorecard playoff as he just won the Golfweek event on Saturday after going back to 18 and making a par.  3 golfers tied for third by shooting 88.  After going through the scorecards, Bill Sturgeon takes 3rd, Chuck Snider takes fourth and Tom Johnson settles for fifth.

Our next event takes us North of Charlotte to the CC of Salisbury.  This Old Donald Ross Course will test the players putting abilities as they have some of the best Bent Grass greens in the Charlotte area.  Please register and pay early so we can create pairings at least 48 hours prior to the event.

Thanks

Phil
