A beautiful Carolina afternoon greeted the 90 players for
our Senior Amateur Event at Cowans Ford on the Southwest side of Lake Norman on
Wednesday.
In the Championship Flight, Brian Swenson goes back to back
by shooting a 3 under par round of 69 to win by 5 shots over 3 golfers who all
shot 74. Using the scorecard playoff
method, Scott Patnode takes second, Tim Smith gets third and Craig Sturdivant
takes home fourth from the Central Carolina tour. The final spot for prizes went to Jeff
Brischke who shot a +3 round of 85.
In the A Flight, Phil Seaman returns to the winner circle
for the first time in 2019. Phil shot a
2 over par 74 to win by 2 shots over Eric Neidermeyer from the Louisiana
tour. Eric shot a +4 round of 76. Third place went to Jim Goulding who shot +6
round of 78. Fourth and Fifth had to be
settled by the scorecard playoff as we had two players tie with +7 scores of
79. In the end Nate Clements took home
fourth and Wayne Kinley take home fifth.
In the B Flight, Jack Beach is BACK by shooting a +5 round
of 77. This was the 1-year anniversary
of Jack being released from the hospital after receiving a double lung
transplant. Jack took a number of months
off from playing competitive golf before his return late last year. He is slowly regaining the strength he once
had and his game is coming around nicely. We had to go back to the scorecard
playoff as 3 golfers tied with +7, 79's.
Toby Tyler takes second; Randall Gaston takes third and Rob Geilhausen
takes fourth. Steve Williams rounds out the top 5 with a score of 80 beating
out Sam Carpenter on the scorecard playoff.
In the C Flight, We had our largest margin of victory, Jimmy
Sullivan shoots 78 to win by 5 shots.
Based on Jimmy's 2 wins and the margin of victories in his wins, he has
earned a battlefield promotion to the B Flight.
Watch our B Flighters, he's coming for you. Second place went to Randall Garver who shot
+11, 83. Phil Schroeder uses his home
course knowledge to capture third place after beating Russell McDonald in a scorecard
playoff, both players shooting a +12 round of 84. Rondal Gibson takes home 5th by shooting a
+13 round of 85.
Once scores were posted, we also had one player move based
on improving index. Russell McDonald has
been promoted to the B Flight as well.
When I spoke to him at the Wells Fargo Championship on Thursday, he said
he knew it was coming, his game had been improving. Now he just must maintain that level of play.
Our next events are BACK TO BACK Wednesdays. We head over to the Club at Irish Creek on
Wednesday the 15th and then head over to the Palisades on Wednesday the 22nd.
Please register online and Pay online to secure your spot in
the field. As the tour grows, we are
getting close to sell outs and once that occurs, only entries that are paid in
advance will be guaranteed their spots.
Thanks
Phil
