The 2009 Harris Teeter Senior Tour completed its 17th tournament of the season at Firethorne CC. Thanks to the staff at Firethorne for keeping the course in great playing conditions even given the weather. Championship Flight: Even given the rainy conditions John Fowler used his hot putter to turn the front nine at 2 under par. It cooled on the back a little but still Fowler fired a one over par 73 for the victory. John was not to worried about the rain or winning since just 10 days ago held had a stint put into one of his arteries. Congrats John on both your victories. Bill Hall finished in second place and fired an even par 36 on the back side to finish only one shot behind Fowler at 74. Jim Hunsuck also proved to be a mudder and finished in third with 77. Ted Cox and last weeks winner Ken Powers tied in fourth with 79’s but it was Cox beating out Powers on the card playoff. A Flight: Terry Lewis had never seen Firethorne and maybe that helped him on Wednesday as he notched another victory with 79. Marty James and Chester Brileya both fired 82,s but it was James winning in the playoff for second spot. Bill Barnett rounded out the top four with 83. B Flight: Mike Edwards won for the first time all season by shooting a smooth 80. Bill Shenoha again knocked on the door but did capture second place at 82. Lonnie Nichols finished in third at 83 while Sam Carpenter got a surprise when his 85 finished him in fourth. C Flight: Larry Hinson captured victory for the second time this season and was the only player in C Flight to break 90. Hinson’s 89 was good enough for a one shot victory over Van (White Belt) Storie who captured second at 90. Tony Schiffer continued his improved play and cash in third spot with 91. Jimmy Taylor back on tour after some injuries got his “Mudder” game out and fired 93 for 4th place. The tour stops next at the newly redesigned Irish Creek CC on Monday August 24th. For those of you who don’t know this is the old Kannapolis CC that Davis Love redid last year. Don’t miss this event as you will surely like the redesign.
