The 2009 Harris Teeter Senior Tour completed its 14th tournament of the season at Pine Island CC. Thanks to the staff who gave us some of the best playing conditions all year. The greens were not only cut but rolled to give the players the best possible putting surfaces. Thanks to GM Larry Yount and head professional Mark Hofstetter for giving us a date on tour, we look forward to coming back next season. Championship Flight: Jerry Sennett won for the first time this season with a one under par 71. Sennett got out of the gate early making birdie at the difficult par 4 first hole. He also birdie 7 to make the turn at 34. With birdies at 11 and 16 Sennett came into 18 3 under par but the tricky 18th green enduced a 4 putt double bogie for his only blemish on the day. Butch Mielke was right behind Sennett and finished in second place with 72. Brad Kroll regained his points lead with a third place finish at 73. And a three way tie at 74 between Ted Cox, John Walters and Jim Buchanan rounded out the top six. Cox won forth place money on the card playoff. A Flight: Bob Boettner last years National “A” Flight Champion won for the first time this season but had to do it in sudden-death. Both Boettner and Terry Lewis finished at 78; but it was Boettner beating out Lewis on the card for first place and the victory. Ron Ballew continues to move up the point’s board with a 79 on Wednesday good enough for third place. Rounding out the top four was Jim Gregory at 80. B Flight: Bill Maryman won for the second time this season but also had win in a playoff. Maryman ended the day tied with Jerry York at 79, but it was Maryman getting the victory on the card playoff. Third and fourth spots also came down to a play-off with Conway Powell finishing in third and Joe Redmond in fourth; both shooting 80’s. C Flight: Having his lowest score all season be an 88 in C flight, Steve Sutherland shot the best round of his life on tour a 78 and with it a promotion to the B flight. Congrats Steve on your great accomplishment and promotion. Sindo Mayor finished in second place at 82. Gary Graham continues to knock on the victory door and finished in third place Wednesday with 84. Jimmy O’Neal and Van Storie both finished at 86, but it was Jimmy besting Van on the card play-off.
