2025 Sandhills Regional Recap

 

Bruce Gantt, Ronnie Averett, Johnny Adams, Mike Groom, and Richard Pfister all win at the Sandhills Regional at Talamore Golf Resort in Southern Pines, NC!

The 2025 Sandhills Regional took place at the Talamore Golf Resort and Mid South Club in Southern Pines on June 9th and 10th. The courses were in excellent condition, the weather was favorable, and the competition proved to be intense.

 

In the Champ Flight, Bruce Gantt (Charlotte, NC) started strong on Day One, recording a two-under-par score of 69 on the Talamore layout. He followed up with a two-over-par score of 74 at Mid South, finishing with an even-par total of 143, securing the victory. Eli Villanueva (Central Carolina) earned runner-up honors after carding a 76 on the opening day and an even-par score on Day Two, totaling 148. Third place resulted in a tie between Dean Parziale and Chris Bloebaum, both from Central Carolina, who posted identical scores of 73-76-149 over the Two-Day event. Chris Gooch, also from Central Carolina, rounded out the top five with back-to-back scores of 75, finishing with a total of 150.

A Flight, Ronnie Averett traveled from Louisiana to participate in the Sandhills Regional, and his journey proved fruitful as he recorded consecutive scores of 72 and 73, culminating in a total of 150, which secured him the victory. Chris Ludwig (Central Carolina) finished in second place with consistent rounds of 76 and 77, totaling 153.

The third position resulted in a tie, as two participants from the Eastern NC Tour each achieved a two-day total of 156. Bob Dail posted scores of 82 and 74, while Mike Geske recorded 75 and 81. Rounding out the top five, Danny Sweetman (Charlotte, NC) completed the event with rounds of 78 and 79, finishing with a total of 157.

In the B Flight, Johnny Adams (Eastern NC) secured a narrow victory with consistent play, finishing with scores of 80-79 for a total of 159. Ben Martin (Central Carolina) followed closely as the runner-up, recording scores of 81-79 for a total of 160. Additionally, a tie for third place emerged, with Hal Moore (Eastern NC) submitting scores of 83-80 for a total of 163, while Alan Sailors (Charlotte, NC) also posted rounds of 76-87 for an identical total of 163. Brien Cozart (Eastern NC) rounded out the top five with consecutive scores of 82-82, culminating in a total of 164. 

In the C Flight, Mike Groom (Central Carolina) acknowledged that his performance on Day One was less than optimal. However, he quickly moved past it and delivered an impressive round of 78 on Day 2. The 90 he posted on the first day became a distant memory, allowing him to achieve a remarkable comeback with a total score of 168, marking the most significant turnaround of the entire event.

Sam Patel (Charlotte, NC), who initially led, became the runner-up with scores of 82 and 87, totaling 169. Meanwhile, the competition intensified as the C flight concluded with a three-way tie for third place. Paul Huddleston (Orlando, FL) made a noteworthy comeback, finishing with scores of 91 and 79 for a total of 180. Rudi Heath (Charlotte) recorded two rounds of 85, bringing his total to 180, while Keith Meeks (Central Carolina) submitted scores of 88 and 82, matching the same total of 180.

Richard Pfister (Central Carolina) demonstrated remarkable consistency in the D Flight, achieving scores of 88 and 89 for a cumulative total of 177, thereby securing a wire-to-wire victory. Marty Carpenter (Central Carolina) displayed commendable determination over the two days, maintaining second place with scores of 92 and 87, finishing with a total of 179, just shy of a potential playoff opportunity.

The D Flight also showcased a tie for third place, as Corey McGee (Eastern NC) submitted scores of 99 and 83, totaling 182, alongside Sean Tavel (Upstate NY) who recorded scores of 95 and 87, also totaling 182. Notably, McGee's impressive 16-shot improvement was the largest swing of the tournament.

Fifth place added to the excitement with a tie, as Jamie Hill (Central Carolina) recorded scores of 96 and 91 for a total of 187, while TJ James (Augusta, GA) finished with scores of 97 and 90, also totaling 187.
