2025 Sr Virginia Regional Recap

 

Eli Vilanueva, Tim Middleton, Steve High, Nealan Chandler, and David Weir all won the 2025 Virginia Senior Regional hosted by Williamsburg National Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA. 

The Virginia Regional event brought together members from nine of our Local Tours nationwide, culminating in a total of 82 participants in Williamsburg, Virginia. Attendees experienced two uniquely distinct golf courses—the Jamestown Course and the Yorktown Course—each offering exceptional play within a single esteemed golf club.

In the Champ Flight, Eli Villanueva (Central Carolina) showcased his determination by securing a one-stroke lead on Day One, closely followed by Hawk Hawkins (Southern Virginia). On Day Two, Jon Coullier (Southern Virginia) made a notable comeback, recording five birdies to tie for the lead with Villanueva, necessitating a playoff to determine the winner. Ultimately, Villanueva emerged victorious, finishing with a score of 71-74 for a total of 145. Coullier claimed second place, while Hawkins finished third with a score of 148. Marty Martinez (Eastern NC) rounded out the top four.

On the first day of Flight A, the scores were modest, reflecting the players’ eagerness to excel. Tim Middleton (Southern Virginia) and Brooks Roberts (Central Carolina) both achieved commendable first-round scores of 75, tying for the lowest round in Flight A on Day One. Terry Desmond (Columbus, OH) trailed by two strokes, setting the stage for an exciting showdown on the second day.

On Day Two, Middleton maintained his momentum, carding a score of 72, which secured him the Regional win with a two-day total of 147. Following closely was Roberts, just two strokes behind, who claimed second place. Desmond finished in third, while Ron Sullins (Southern Virginia) made the prize cut, securing fourth place.

In the B Flight, the competition was intense, with Steve High (Southern Virginia) initially taking the lead after Day One, just one stroke ahead of Tim Matthews (Southern VA) and two strokes ahead of Hal Moore (Eastern NC). However, on Day Two, High proved to be unbeatable, finishing with scores of 71-74 for a total of 145, thus securing the Regional win. Matthews finished in second place, followed by Moore in third, and Randy Dorsey (Southern VA) in fourth.

Participants in the C Flight showcased their skills in an exciting competition. On the first day, a remarkable four-way tie emerged among the leaders: Nealan Chandler (Southern VA), Michael Allen (Eastern NC), Dave Millis (Southern VA), and Randy Lewis (Coastal GA). Close behind, just one stroke off the lead, were Goodwyn Henderson (Southern VA), Mark Jochum (Columbus, OH), James Reddoch (Eastern NC), and Stan Sherman (Southern VA). As the competition progressed into Day Two, the title in C Flight remained highly contested. Ultimately, Nealan Chandler demonstrated consistency, carding scores of 83-83 for a total of 166, thereby claiming the championship and trophy. Dave Millis secured second place, while James Reddoch finished in third. Notably, Ken White (Charlotte, NC) made a significant leap from 14th place to tie for fourth alongside Butch Novak (Tour Director of Columbus, OH).

During Day One of Flight D, it became evident that Doland Miller (Southern Virginia) would prove to be a formidable competitor, with Ken Mutzabaugh (Washington DC Metro) trailing by just three strokes as they approached Day Two. However, Dave Weir (Southern Virginia) delivered consistent rounds of 89, ultimately tying for first place with Mutzabaugh, which led to a playoff. Weir emerged victorious in the playoff, securing the trophy. Mutzabaugh finished in second place, while Joe Peny (Coastal GA) and Roberto Benavides (Columbus, OH) were tied for third.
