THIRD MAJOR PLAYERS BEAT THE HEAT AND THUNDERSTORMS

The third Major of the year for the Myrtle Beach tour was played on one of the best courses on the grand strand THE THISTLE. A great layout that proved a solid test for the tour players. A rain storm delay of about an hour caused players to play lift clean and place, and made for a long day out on the course for all.

In the  Championship flight Rich Montgomery was even par 36 on the front nine and lead by 4 strokes over Tyler Hall.Montgomery struggled to a 40 on the back,  to finish with a 76. Tyler Hall a brand new member who had a 38 on the back for a 78 and finished 2 strokes back. This was Montgomery’s second win of the year.

In the A Flight John Tucker of the Columbia tour had one stroke lead after nine holes over Steve Mills and wound up stretching it to 2 strokes and a win with birdies on 17 & 18 for an 81 to beat Steve Mills by 2 strokes.

B Flight after trailing by a stoke on the front nine,  Ralph LaCarbonarra had to stage a comeback on the back nine with a birdie on 14th hole for a 1 stroke win over Dan Desmit. This was LaCarbonarra’s first win of the season.

C Flight Doug Tomkins from the Pinehurst tour lead by one stroke over Paul O’Bryant and played strong finishing with an 80 to beat O’Bryant who had an 83.

D Flight David Shropshire of the Charlotte tour was leading by 4 strokes after nine but Greg Reynolds made a comeback on the back nine but fell short by 2 strokes, and Shropshire came away with the win.

SENIOR TOUR RESULTS;

CHAMP FLT Don Sheads was the winner with an 80, not his usual round.

A Flight we had a pretty close match with Larry Smothers leading after the front by a stroke over George Shadwick. Smothers birdied #10 to help him win the match by a stroke with a 79 to Shadwicks 80. This was Smothers first win of this year.

B Flight this was a fairly close match on the front nine with Jack Sudol leading Kerry Taylor by a stroke with a  39. But Taylor had some problems on the back to drop from contention. But, Greg Moses made a big recovery with 4 birdies on the back to shoot a 37…. For an 81 to finish second to Sudols 76…. Which may get him a promotion to A Flt!!!!

C Flight Floyd Eilber played real well on both nines to win by 4 strokes over Mike Hinson…. Floyd is our "super senior" and I think he won shooting his age!!!
