NOTICE: SOUTHERN PINES MAKE-UP VENUE ONCE AGAIN SWITCHED:
The event scheduled for August 1 - Southern Pines CC was switched to Mill Creek due to conflicting contractual problems with the course.
Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that Mill Creek has lost it's greens again. Consequently, we will not stage the event at Mill Creek on August 1.
I have secured a new venue for that date: Foxfire (East) CC in the Pinehurst area. Price and times are the same as the original Southern Pines event - 10am shotgun and $60 event fee.
If you signed up originally for Southern Pines, I will leave you on the roster for Foxfire unless you inform me otherwise.
Please let me know asap if you were signed up, but don't wish to play at the venue change to Foxfire.

THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR
SEVEN LAKES COUNTRY CLUB EVENT
TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT
DURHAM'S ARDERY GOES LOW IN SENIOR AM TOUR EVENT
Seven Lakes, NC
July 18, 2013
Eric Ardery has been one of the most consistent players on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour for quite some time. The Championship Flight member from Durham had just won his last two starts "on-Tour", including the season's 3rd Major Championship at Pinewood Country Club two weeks ago.
He made it 3-in-a-row with a comfortable 4 shot win over Raleigh's Trip Barclift at Seven Lakes Country Club. He shot a 1-under 71 on the 6,390 yard layout on a day where over half the Championship Flight field failed to break 80.
"Every time Eric tees it up he's got a real shot at winning", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "If he's not in the top 2 or 3, it's very unusual. I'm just surprised that on a day like today, with the course in such super shape, that he won with such ease".
Madison's Wilson Shelton, playing from the shorter White Tees, didn't have quite the margin of victory enjoyed by Ardery while winning the A Flight, finishing only 2 strokes ahead of Lewisville's Mike Greene, but his 1-over 73 was quite impressive nevertheless.
Meanwhile the only B Flight member to break 80 was Greensboro's Tim Ward, who barely made it under that milestone with a 79. Tour veteran Jerry Widdowson from Durham was 3 back with an 82.
It took only one extra hole to determine the sudden-death playoff between the 2 top combatants in the C Flight after Pinehurst's Marty Carpenter and Kernersville's Donald Brown turned in identical regulation 84s to top the 36 man field. "He (Carpenter) tried to hit his tee shot OB on (hole #) 1", quipped Brown. "Then I went right ahead and hit it out-of-bounds myself". The resulting bogey registered by Carpenter was good enough to take home the first place Mastercard.
On Thursday, July 25 the Senior Tour travels to Greensboro Country Club's Carlson Farm Course. That event has been a sell-out for the past 2 weeks.

Where Will You Be in the 2013 Season Ending Point Standings Race?
There are only two ways to get to the year ending National Tournament - win one of the four majors or be one of the Top 10 point earners in your flight.
As you plot your tour schedule, be cognizant of the fact, only the top 10 are guaranteed access. Usually, most flight races are tight and depends on how well you play and of course how many tour dates you participate in during 2013.
Do you know how many tournaments you will need to play and what place you will need to finish in each tournament to ensure you have your automatic invitation?

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions
Questions from week #208
With the January, 2012 revision to the Rules of Golf, the description of a Tee was removed from the Definitions and placed in the new section: Appendix IV. Using that information and Rule 11-1, decided the following as TRUE or FALSE:
A. It is permissible to set your ball on a divot when playing your first stroke from the teeing ground.
B. It is permissible to attach a string to a tee, provided it is not used to indicate direction of play, only to help find the tee after a stroke.
C. The Rules permit me to create an irregularity of surface using sand scooped from the divot-fill sandbox to tee my ball on a par three.
D. A tee that is designed to be an anti-slice tee is permitted by the Rules and Appendix IV.
Answers:
A. True. R11-1. A divot is a natural substance.
B. False. From Appendix IV: A tee may not be designed in such a way that is could indicate line of play. A string attached to a tee could be used in such a manner.
C. True. R11-1. The surface of the ground includes an irregularity of surface (whether or not created by the player) and sand or other natural substance (whether or not placed by the player).
D. False. This would be a non-conforming tee as it is designed to influence the movement of the ball. See Appendix IV.

TTour Weather Guidelines
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
Please forward this e-mail to your friends, peers, relatives or anyone you think would be interested in putting their golf skills to a test against others.
