DALE ROGERS WINS SENIOR TOUR PLAYOFF AT BERMUDA RUN
Posted: 5/5/2009 10:26:19 AM
Bermuda Run, NC - (May 4, 2009) Lawsonville's Dale Rogers, playing in only his 2nd event on the Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Golf Tour calendar, grabbed a win in a sudden death playoff for the B Flight crown at Bermuda Run Country Club. Rogers finished his regulation 18 holes tied with Mark Rice of West End as both posted 80s. On the first hole of the playoff, Rice made a clutch 15-foot putt to extend the match, but the steady Rogers posted another par on their second hole to seal the victory. "Rice has been playing well of late", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "It would not have been suprising to see him grab the win, but it's always nice to see new guys do well in their first few events". An old Tour hand, Ken Eichele of Pinehurst, made a statement for the Tour veterans as he outdistanced two 1st-year Tour members in the Championship Flight with a 76 and a 5-stroke margin over Bermuda Run's Gordon Niblock and Raleigh's Bill Rockenstein. While the Championship Flight played from the 6,509-yard Blue tees, the A Flight played from the Whites at 6,165 yards. Randy Coppedge took full advantage of that difference in yardage, as the Greensboro resident wisely stayed in play off the tee by hitting long irons on most the par-4s. His conservative play resulted in a 75 and a 2-stroke win over Jim Gregory of Lexington. In the C Flight, two Greensboro Tour members fought it out with Tony Johnson also enjoying a 2 stroke cushion over TJ Warren, 86 to 88. This win capped a "comeback" for Johnson, who suffered a serious eye injury about 2 years ago and has worked hard to get back in competitive shape since. There are twenty events left on the Harris Teeter Sr Tour schedule for this season. Any amateur golfer over 50 can compete by calling Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or emailing him at behgolf@aol.com.
