LUZAR, WIDDOWSON CONTINUE HOT STREAKS ON SENIOR TOUR

Holly Springs, NC  (July 28, 2011)  -  Pinehurst's Rick Luzar has dominated Championship Flight play on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour lately, winning the last 3 scheduled events "on-Tour" in the top flight.  His even par 72 today at Devils Ridge Country Club gave him a 2-stroke edge over club member Johnny Adams of Cary.  "Rick has been a factor in every event he's played this season", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.  "We're counting on him to come through for us at the year-ending Tour Finals that are held in Pinehurst in November".  That event brings together the top 250 players from the 13 Tours along the East Coast.

Another local player who should make some "noise" at those Finals is Durham's Jerry Widdowson, winner of his last 2 Tour starts in the B Flight.  Jerry fired a 76 for a 1 shot margin over Graham's Louis Herndon.

The B Flight had 6 golfers break the magic "80 barrier" in a highly competitive field. Every flight was hotly contested along with the temperatures that went into the 100s.

The A Flight saw Creedmoor's Cecil Lockley edge out Youngsville's Bill Bowers by a single stroke with a 75 (both the Champ and A flights played from 400 yards further back than B & C flights did).  Lockley is also a multiple Tour winner.

The C Flight was no different as long time Tour veteran John Hall nipped 2 opponents, Danville's Kenny Powell and Raleigh's Benny Miller by a single stroke - 85 to 86.  "John was steady as a rock" noted Hallenbeck.

The next Senior Tour event will be held at Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh.  Any golfer over 50 interested in competing in a Tour event can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 for information on signing up.
