GREENSBORO'S DEARMAN TAKES HARRIS TEETER PLAYOFF WIN!
Posted: 3/20/2009 12:36:12 PM
Durham, NC - (March 19, 2009) - Norlina's Sonny Peoples had it in his hands at Falls Village GC. He shot an 80 in regulation, and was looking at a 3-foot birdie putt on the 1st hole of a sudden death playoff to notch a victory in the B Flight of the Harris Teeter Senior Tour against Greensboro's Terry Dearman. Unfortunately for Peoples, his putt drifted slightly off line and Dearman stayed alive in the playoff. Dearman then took full advantage of the miscue by winning the very next hole for the flight's top prize. Because of the heavy snowfall earlier this month, Falls Village had to set back their original schedule to "punch" the greens. They were done only a week before this event and the holes were evident. To his credit, Peoples didn't fall back on this as an excuse: "I just missed it", he stated. The Championship Flight was just as tightly contested, with Hope Mills' Milt deReyna and David Williams of Cary carding identical 74s in regulation. deReyna went on to take the win. Doug Masters of Clemmons took his 2nd Harris Teeter A Flight victory of the season with a 74 and a 3-stroke margin over Raleigh's Bob Rudolph. "We'll take a look at Doug's Tour handicap", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck, "and see how close he is to the Championship Flight number". Gary Ransom of Apex rounded out the Flight winners with an 86 in the C Flight. He also had a 3-stroke advantage over two players: Raleigh's Harold Booker and Danny Keever of High Point. For information on how to get involved with the Harris Teeter Tour, which is open to any amateur golfer over 50, call Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or email him at behgolf@aol.com.
