THREE 73'S DOMINATE TOP TWO SR. TOUR FLIGHTS AT THE NATIONAL GC

Pinehurst, NC (July 29, 2010) - You would expect that a 1-over 73 would be turned in by one or more of the Championship Flight players at The National Golf Club in Pinehurst during today's Senior Amateur Golf Tour event. However, you might not expect that one of those 73s came from an A Flight player hitting from the same tees as the "big boys". However, that's exactly what Creedmoor's Cecil Lockley did to come away with a 1-stroke victory over Lewisville's Mike Smith. Lockley, who has competed in 25 events this season on both the Raleigh and Charlotte Tours, is no stranger to the winner's circle, having notched a number of Tour wins in the past. His 73 today however, was the lowest score he has posted during those 25 events he's played this year. In the Championship Flight two members also posted 73s and consequently had to return to the course to decide the top spot in a sudden death playoff. Long hitting Craig Sturdivant of Sanford was the benificiary of starting the playoff against Lawrence Hicks of Greensboro on the relatively short 454 yard par 5, 10th hole. With his length, Sturdivant was able to reach the green in 2 with a 7-iron. His 2-putt birdie was just enough to secure the win. David Frye of Winston-Salem was the only B Flight member to break 80 with a 78 and a 3-stroke victory over a trio of golfers. Gary Niland of Mount Airy was one of only 4 players in the C Flight to break 90, as his 87 gave him a one stroke win over Raleigh's Darrell Hagwood. THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR THE NATIONAL GOLF CLUB TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (6,128 yards) Craig Sturdivant, Sanford 73 Lawrence Hicks, Greensboro 73 Alan Dirk, Sanford 74 Tommy Lee, Knoxville, TN 75 James Dill, Cary 75 A FLIGHT (6,128 yards) Cecil Lockley, Creedmoor 73 Mike Smith, Lewisville 74 Marv Houghton, Fayetteville 75 Mark McKenna, Fuquay-Varina 76 James McMillan, Laurinburg 77 Dale Casey, Zebulon 77 B FLIGHT (6,128 yards) David Frye, Winston-Salem 78 Edward Burton, Durham 81 James Herndon, Hamlet 81 Joe Burgess, Charlotte 81 James Dockery, Southern Pines 82 C FLIGHT (6,128 yards) Gary Niland, Mount Airy 87 Darrell Hagwood, Raleigh 88 Wayne Jones, Cary 89 Brian Costine, Durham 89 Charlie Williams, Autryville 90
