ONE STROKE SEPARATES TOP 5 IN HARRIS TEETER SR EVENT!

Greensboro, NC (March 12, 2009) - The top five spots in the Championship Flight of the Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour event held at The Champions Course at Bryan Park couldn't have been closer as a single stroke was the difference between 1st and 5th place. Tour veteran Willie Hendricks of Durham emerged as the winner with a 4-over 76 on the 6,651 yd track, while a Harris Teeter Tour rookie, George Tsiolkas of Winston-Salem, broke out of a 4-way tie to claim 2nd place. Frank Miller of Summerfield, David Shackelford of Cary, and Apex' David Williams all matched Tsiolkas' total of 77, but came out second best in the scorecard playoff. The A Flight, which played from shorter (5,997 yd) tees, also saw a long-time Tour member nip a newcomer by one shot to claim victory. Davidson's Mike Gaisbauer edged Ed Lothes of Durham by one stoke firing a 77 for the win. Lothes was competing in his very first Tour event. Mark Rice of Seven Lakes was king of the B Flight with an 81, giving him a 2-stroke margin over Greensboro's Terry Dearman. Stoneville's Jack Lytton finished strong last season in the C Flight, and didn't seem to miss a beat as his 86 topped Greensboro's Charles Gunn by a single stroke for top honors in the flight. "Cool and breezy conditions kept scores reasonably low in each flight", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck, "but when we've got the top players in every flight winning by just a single stroke or two, it shows our handicapping system works pretty darn good". The Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour is open to any amateur golfer over 50, regardless of handicap. Anyone interested in getting information on how to participate in an event can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com.
