LOWER FLIGHTS GO LOW IN SR AMATEUR TOUR EVENT

Mebane, NC (May 20, 2010) - Led by Zebulon's Randy Bunn, the A, B, and C Flights represented in today's Senior Amateur Golf Tour event held at Mill Creek Golf Club showed that on any given day it doesn't take a 1-handicapper to post a good score in tournament play. A number of entrants posted their lowest scores of the season, while some fired career best Tour scores. Bunn was a perfect example. While he had one A Flight Tour victory to his credit this season, that was accomplished in a playoff after shooting a rather modest 78 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro. Today he led all scorers - even those in the Championship Flight - with an even par 72, playing from the 6,387 yard, Blue tees (the same tees the "Big Boys" hit from). Bunn needed to drop every putt he holed, because Fayetteville's David Teal was only one back with a 73. Mark Robinson of Winston-Salem shot a 75 for 3rd place. While the B Flight did play from the 5,911 yard White tees, Tom Handy's 74 represented one of the lowest scores of the year for his flight. The Fuquay-Varina resident's round was highlighted by 4 birdies. First-year Tour member Twig Avent of Durham shot a 77 for 2nd. It was his first finish "in the money" on Tour. "I finally put a round together" said Avent. Madison's David Baker. also a 1st year player, and Tour veteran Tom Kubla of Pinehurst were the other flight members to break 80 with 79s. Kernersville's Richard Payne led all C Flight players with an 83 for his first Tour win. He nipped a trio of members by a single stroke, as Raleigh's Shirral Davis, Pinehurst's John Henely, and James Eatmon of Sims all carded 84s. Hardly a stranger to the winner's circle, Sanford's Alan Dirk put another "notch on his gun" with a 1-over par Championship Flight victory. He finished 2 strokes clear of Chuck Latham of Vass and 4 below Spring Lake's Chip Luce.
