AMATEUR TOURS BRAVE WEATHER AT MID PINES!
Posted: 3/2/2009 3:03:26 PM
"Champ" Flight - Ray Floyd "A" Flight - Doug Masters "B" Flight - Richard Pfister!
Southern Pines, NC (February 28, 2009) - 90 intrepid souls teed off in a steady rain today at Mid Pines Resort in a combined Egolf / Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tour event. Even though the wet conditions never completely abated, almost all of the field continued on to complete their rounds. Despite the fact that Mid Pines remained playable due to the great natural drainage ability of the course, the difficult conditions were clearly reflected in the scores posted at the end of the day. The lowest score of the day was turned in by Morrisville's Jay Floyd, who turned in a 76 in the Championship Flight. Clemmons' Doug Masters was the only A flight golfer to break 80, and he did it by the narrowest of margins with a 79. The B Flight saw Pittsboro's Rick Pfister and Hope Mill's Mark Cobb shoot 82s with Pfister winning in a card playoff because neither player wanted to get their equipment back out and return to the course for a sudden-death shoot-out. That sentiment was echoed in the C Flight as Dale Rucker of Laurel Hill nipped Denton's WE Heasley on the cards after both turned in 91s. "This is the last of the pre-season events we'll have this year", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "Next week both Tours start their regular seasons in earnest at Bermuda Run West Country Club just outside of Winston-Salem. Hopefully the weather will be a lot better for that one". Any amateur golfer interested in playing on either the Egolf or Harris Teeter Senior Tours can call Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com for information on how to go about signing up.
