BIG DEBUT FOR SENIOR AMATEUR TOUR ROOKIE

Mark Macejko (Champ Flight) Doug Masters (A Flight) Gene Falls (B Flight) Mike Thomas (C Flight)
Southern Pines, NC - (February 20, 2010) Many golfers have had auspicious first events In the twelve years that the Pinehurst Senior Amateur (Formerly Harris Teeter) and the Egolf Amateur Tour have been in existence. It is unlikely that any of those efforts however would top the debut enjoyed by Gene Falls of Manning, SC in the B Flight Saturday. Playing in the first event of the 2010 season Saturday at Mid Pines Resort, Falls took dead aim on the 163 yard, par 3, 11th hole. His 7-iron shot dropped on the green and disappeared into the hole for his 6th career "ace". That alone would have been enough to make his first Tour event memorable, but the fact that it helped power him to a comfortable B Flight victory added to the excitement of the moment. Falls 80 bettered Laurenburg's Kyle Smith, who was also playing in his first Tour event, by 4 strokes. Another Tour "rookie" also grabbed top honors in the Championship Flight, as Mark Macejko of Vass posted a front-nine 33 and held on for a 2-stroke win over Selma's Tracey King, 72 to 74. Macejko only gained last-minute entry into this sold-out event as a replacement for a late "scratch" in the top flight. In other Tour action, Doug Masters of Clemmons took first place in the A Flight with an 80, good for a 2-stroke edge over a trio of golfers - Cary's David Cotton, Paul Hanczaryk of Crofton, MD, and Carthage's Gene Greenawalt. The C Flight saw two Pittsboro residents battle it out for the top spot as Tour veteran Mike Thomas edged Mike Hawkins by a single shot - 86 to 87. "The 2010 Tour season is just getting started", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "We finally got some decent weather and our sell-out field reflected that. We're still receiving applications for new members for both the Senior Amateur Tour and the Egolf Tour". Anyone interested in playing on either Tour can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or by emailing him at behgolf@aol.com.
