Foxfire Village, NC (May 29, 2014) - Two strokes were all that separated First Place from Third place in the Championship flight of today's Senior Amateur Golf Tour event held at Foxfire Resort - The Red Fox Course. Winston-Salem's Howard Nemenz shot an even par round of 72 to capture the top spot, while Tour newcomer Mark Hollingsworth, playing in his very first Tour event, finished 1 stroke back. Thomasville's Dan Anthony rounded out the first 3 spots with a 74.
"Howard and Dan have enjoyed success already this year, and it looks like Mark is going to present some serious competition down the road in the Champ Flight", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
It seemed doubtful that the A Flight results could be any closer than they were in the Championship Flight, but they were, with only 1 stroke separating the top three there. Tour veterans Jim Alford of Zebulon, Cary's David Shackelford, and Pinehurst's Chuck Taubersmith finished at the top of the 27-man flight. Alford, who has displayed consistency throughout the season shot a 75 for the win.
Long-hitting Chuck Smith out of Sanford claimed a 1 shot win over Pittsboro's Glenn Wright in the B Flight competition, 76 to 77. It was Smith's first win in this, the 11th start of his rookie season.
Rock Hill's Mike Hinson outclassed his C Flight rivals with a 5 shot win over Knightdale's Doug Harvey - 80 to 85. "That's one of the lowest C Flight scores we've ever had", stated Hallenbeck.
Next stop for the tour is a 2-day event at Bryan Park in Greensboro on June 4th and 5th. Tour members will be playing the Players Course first and The Championship Course to finish the event. There are a very few openings available for that venue.
