LAMBERT TAKES HARRIS TEETER WIN AFTER LAYOFF
Posted: 6/19/2009 2:19:51 PM
Pinehurst, NC (June 16, 2009) - Summerfield's Steve Lambert hasn't had the opportunities to get out and play regularly this season on the Harris Teeter Sr. Tour. It didn't show on Thursday at The Pit Golf Links as Lambert enjoyed a single stroke victory over Raleigh's Brent Massey in the Championship Flight. Playing from the 6,559 yard, par 72 "Screw" tees in only his 2nd event of the season,, Lambert posted a 76 for the win. "Work has been so busy, I haven't been able to make the time to come out", said Lambert. "Steve's always going to be in the mix when he can get out and play with us" noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck - "he's just a tough competitor". The A Flight, which played from 6,138 yards, was also decided by a single stroke, as Gene Greenawalt of Carthage continued his excellent play of late and fired a 77 to nip Ron Vanderklok of Advance and Clemmons' Doug Masters for the top prize. Two B Flight players were able to break 80 on Thursday as Fayetteville's David Teal and Marshall Wolfe of Clemmons both fired 79s and then headed back out on the course for a sudden death playoff. The playoff didn't generate much excitement however, as Teal won on the first extra hole due to Wolfe's untimely 3-putt after both reached the green in regulation. Lillington's Geoff Foss captured the first Tour title of his career in the C Flight with an 82. That score bettered his Tour average score by more than 10 strokes, as he entered this event with a certified Tour Handicap of 20.2. "I hope to move to the B Flight eventually", stated Foss "this score gives me some confidence". Charlie Williams of Selma grabbed 2nd in the flight with an 85.
