Thank you to all players who participated the past two Sunday's at Clovernook Country Club! It was great to see returning and new members as we kicked off our 2023 season!

3/19/23

Our first event of the year comes from Clovernook CC. Tournament directors arrived at 9:00 AM and were met with a snow-covered course. Not to be discouraged, they went right to work, meeting with the head pro and superintendent to come up with a plan going forward. As we were in our discussions, we noticed the snow start to melt away, which made our collective decision to switch to a 1:30 PM shotgun start a reality. Nonetheless, the temperature still remained bitter cold for the second year in a row, so a huge thank you from us to all the players for braving the cold in order to make the event a success.

Our first flight of the day was the Champ Flight, which saw Sam Maier and last year’s player of the year, Matt Green, head to a sudden death playoff. Maier was able to capture the victory on the second playoff hole. Maier and Green shot impressive rounds of 74. The Columbus Tours John Fryman was one back in third with a fine round of 75.

Next up was the A flight. It was all about visiting players with Brad Maxwell of The Cleveland Tour taking first with a round of 79. Michigan East’s Jake Smith and our own Peter Detty tied with rounds of 80 with Smith taking second after a scorecard playoff leaving Detty in 3rd. Tour Director Tyler Hutson and Tony Grubb finished with rounds of 81. Grubb took fourth after a scorecard playoff.

Rounding out the regular tour was the B Flight. Mark Tyler played well capturing the win with a fine round of 81. Ken Sloan and The Indianapolis Tours Jason Krich fired rounds of 84 with Krich taking second after a scorecard playoff. Sloan was third and Nathan Wolpert was fourth with a round of 87.

Next up was The Senior Tour C Flight. Todd Courtney came through with an 88 to capture the win over David Hall, who shot a respectable 91 and Scotty Peters finished third at 92.

Last but not least was The Senior Tour D Flight. Assistant Director Stan Ley was able to hold off Scott Goodhart to take home the trophy with a round of 99 to Goodhart’s 102.

Again, we would like to thank everyone for showing up and braving the elements in support of the Tour and your own individual goals and love of the game. The good news is it will only get warmer going forward! Clovernook CC is also very appreciative of the care we all took in leaving the course how we found it. This is a testament to the type of men and women we have on our tour and it helps in the future tournament bookings.

3/26/23

As was the case last season the second weekend brought nicer weather, however recent rains also brought us a saturated course. Players sloshed their way to the end, which finished in near total darkness. Due to circumstances out of our control tee times were pushed back 15 minutes. Couple that with cart path only and wet conditions leads to slower than average rounds and impending darkness. We were able to institute some decisions on the fly regarding the last two groups and we appreciate their understanding and wherewithal to get the tournament completed.

Our first flight of the day is the C Flight, which saw tour newcomer, Dan Bick fire an impressive round of 79. Not only did he earn a trophy and gift card, he also earned a promotion to the A Flight. David Donnelly finished second with an 81 and Chris Louth of the Columbus Tour was third with an 82.

The D Flight was next up, with Bill Kilpatrick and Doc Sherman of the Cleveland Tour tying for first with rounds of 91. Due to darkness, there was no playoff for first and both players were crowned co-champions. Tyler Miller and Thomas Hargis both fired rounds of 91 with Miller driving the green on the 18th in near total darkness, two putting for the birdie and a scorecard playoff victory over Hargis, solidifying 3rd place.

The Senior A Flight saw two Columbus Tour players battle it out to the last hole. Ryan Slone held off Keith Pluto scoring a 79 to Pluto’s 80 to take home the win. Joe DiGiorgio was third with an 83 and Bob Holz took fourth with an 85. Former Cincinnati Bengal and visitor from the Arizona Tour, Ray Horton was fifth with an 86.

Last but not least was The Senior B Flight. A battle of visiting tour directors ensued with Cleveland Tour director Steve Riley, who rode a hot putter to a one-shot win over the Indianapolis Tours Amalaraj Irudayaraj, 75 to 76. Outstanding rounds fellas! Donald Ratliff snatched third with an 81. Assistant Tour director Brian Lane tied with Mark Tyler with rounds of 82. Lane took fourth after a scorecard playoff.

As always, we want to thank everyone for their dedication to YOUR tour. Without all of you we wouldn’t have tournaments to play in, friendships to foster and great places to play. When players take care of the places, we go it definitely makes a good impression and assists us in booking future events. So, again, thank you and we will see you all on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Walden Ponds Golf Club.
